Not for the hardcore boxing fan, who at least appreciates his skill and accomplishments. Rather, how is he good for the sport in terms of bringing it to a general audience?

He has an abrasive personality to which people respond more with contempt than interest. This race bull**** yesterday was just the latest example. And his fights seem boring as **** to the general sports fan.

but it adds interest in seeing a guy most people dont like hopefully get beat, his abrasive personality sells....he has sold music albums, been featured on tv shows, and commercials....he has had crossover mainstream appeal...good for boxing

Whether the attention he attracts is good or bad, they say bad publicity is better than no publicity. Floyd attracts attention to the sport, which the sport needs. It doesn't hurt to have an UNDEFEATED outspoken guy either.

but he never takes on challenging fights, and he hypes up mismatches. How is that attractive?

Exactly. If his fights were on network TV, maybe the general sports fan would tune in to hopeufully watch him get knocked out. But he can run his mouth all he wants, it's not going to make the casual fan shell out $60 to watch a boring mismatch.

The subject of his racist comment was brought up on PTI today & ya know what Michael Wilbon (a black man) had to say?

He said his fight were wretched, not the least bit entertaining. :deal

Black or white, with the attitude that PBF has cemented for himself, its no wonder that the majority of fans tune in to see him possibly lose. And Marquez is gonna be his biggest threat so far.

His attitude, bragging & all that stuff will get the interest of casual fans, they will at least ask a more solid boxing fan how good is this guy & is he likely to be able to back it up... once the knowledgeable fan has explained that FMJ is a brilliant boxer, you can bet that 95% of the time, that casual fan will make it a point of watching FMJs next fight & if all goes well, we might have recruited one more soon to be solid fan.

    :good

people tune in cause they want to see him get knocked the **** out - you cant like everyone and if there were no assholes n boxing it would be less compelling as it give a fight more tension and excitment. Imagine if Tyson had been a nice respectful guy he wouldnt have got the exposure he did which may actually have been a good thing for him

there are people at my work who don't give a **** about Boxing but they know who he is. The guy has charisma and is a damn good fighter. Does he say idiotic things once in a while? Sure. But he is about all this sport has left in America when it comes to mainstream fans.
