Explain to me how you arrive at Takam as stand in?

Yeah, but we're talking 70k tickets and PPV. Those Wilder bums were for a cable channel in front of 12k people.

Oh that's good! For Joshua? He may give Joshua a bit of work though I think the height difference (he was 2 inches shorter than Parker already) may start becoming a big issue, not that I give Takam any real chance in this fight haha. I do hope for some fun rounds though

Did you even watch the povetkin fight? He was arguably getting the better of povetkin until round 9, he definitely wasn’t “easily destroyed”.

Only slightly MAYBE. As I said in a prior post... Takam proved his worth by being competitive with Povetkin, Parker and getting robbed by Perez. He beat Thompson too and almost certainly would have beaten Dimitrenko, Ustinov and Chisota. Point being they're both top 10 guys with the same amount of chance against Joshua. Pulev has no more pop than Takam... Actually Takam has better inside skills and MIGHT be able to rough Joshua up there a bit early on whereas Pulev just would have tied up. Takam has a better shot of having a Whyte -esque moment where he buzzes Joshua than Pulev. It's an EXTREME outside chance but due to his style he probably has a better chance.

According to Michael Benson, yes, he's been in camp preparing for Joshua in case Pulev pulled out.

As far as last minute replacements go it isn't too bad.

The Pulev fight itself was decent but was far from great.

This fight is about getting the mandatory out of the way whilst Joshua smashes a name opponent.

Takam was nowhere near getting the better of Povetkin. Povektin threw defense out the window since he knew Takam couldn't hurt him. Povetkin just took his time and Takam ran out of gas and got knocked out.

Takam also made Parker look like a boxing master, which is saying something. Takam could barely land on Parker, who is known for being stiff and slow.

Takam is short, heavy, and slow with a very limited skill set, which makes tailor made for Joshua. Takam also has bad stamina.

Ok, it's fine picking holes in the fight but you tell me what Hearn and Joshua should have done?

Joshua has no choice but to fight an IBF mandatory, well he does have a choice and it's vacate or get stripped, Pulev was his mandatory.. and now he has pulled out.

That still didn't leave Joshua much of a choice, he still has to fight the next in line and that is regarded by the IBF as a mandatory defence.

This isn't Joshua or Hearn looking for a soft touch or hand picking an opponent, they have to go down the IBF rankings, if Takam didn't want the fight Jarrell Miller would have been asked and so on.

I'm really not understanding the negativity from some people when they understand it has to be a mandatory defence and Pulev pulled out and left them with less than 2 weeks until fight night.

I understand the circumstances and have no problem with Taken as a late replacement.

Plus they haven't said who would have been better and why that fight would have taken the fight with 2 weeks notice...

I think Takam is decent for a standin. No worse than Stiverne.

Let's not get confused here... Those 70k tickets are because Joshua is fighting and would have been sold regardless. As for PPV... Hearn has said it's not anymore.

Takam did OK against a juiced to the gills Povetkin.
