It's funny how this is made an issue.

If anyone actually wanted to take Calzaghe down for 10 years, they knew where to find him. Anybody in MW or SMW could have become his mandatory.

If he had skipped around and threw the straps in the bin, like he did the IBF, he'd be criticized for ducking X and Y.

Ultimately it came to the fact that he couldn't get a shot against any of the LHW Champions and didn't want to "Get in line" in my view.

The deal with Hopkins in 2001/2002 - had Hopkins not backed out and Calzaghe won - I think you would have seen some interest from the LHW fighters, but until Lacy called out Calzaghe - he wasn't bankable as a fighter and as we all know? If you ain't bankable and you present a challenge, you'll struggle to get fights.

As for Ottke/Beyer - you do realise that at one point, Calzaghe offered to fight Ottke in Germany for 1 Euro just to get a shot at him right? Ottke was never going to go near Calzaghe, that's the one guy you'll never screw on the scorecards due to the work he puts in.

Calzaghe was just as avoided in many instances as people believe he avoided others - Hopkins in 2001 saying Yes to a contract only to back out (some say after a conversation with Eubank), Ottke throughout the early 2000s, Beyer - none of these guys wanted to fight him, so Joe took the different step of fighting the guys who arguably beat Ottke and Beyer but got hometown decisions and most of the time, he KO'ed them.

If you look back at any of this guys posts, all of them pretty much mention Calzaghe!

    He's like the anti-Amsterdam.

He also likes Carl Froch and trolls Mikkel Kessler, both of which seem to be extensions of his Calzaghe-hate.

The other day he managed to mention Kessler in a thread on Enzo Maccarinelli's career, which was quite an achievement....

Yeah, division consistency is something that I feel most of these fighters who drain down to 130 and then springboard up through the weights to 154 get too much credit for.

Even Floyd, who I think is superb, has not done the work since 135 to prove himself at any particular weight, he always leaves challenges behind.

Much harder to reign at one division for 10 years in my view than it is to pick and choose fights across divisions for 10 years.

. a better question for him(im guessing hes a hopkins fan) is why hopkins was at MW for so long before moving up, or even just once to go see roy jones again...answer-becasue hed get whooped. All of a sudden roy jones loses, he moves up for tarver! to beat the man that beat the man! ok ok

Hopkins went up when he lost his belt and felt there was nothing more he could do at MW.

He tried to get a fight with RJJ but priced himself too highly, as he did with other fighters of the day. It was really only the fact that he got spoonfed hopeful contenders like Tito and Oscar that kept him at MW - he was the proving ground.

Also, don't forget that Hopkins stayed in that MW for many years and jumped straight past Calzaghe's SMW division to get the shot at legendary...... Antonio Tarver... brave move.

He stayed at Super Middleweight because he wanted to dominate the division and he probably wanted to be remembered as the best at that weight. I don't blame him I would do the same instead of going up and down to different divisions.

What's with all the hate on Calzaghe did he **** on some of your guys' cereal or something?
