I will preface this post by saying on my card it was 115-113 Oldy or 7 rounds to 5 rounds. Now, I knew there would be some robbery/criminal posts going after this fight but let me explain a few things for a Judges standpoint. There were a lot of close rounds in this fight where neither guy did very little. In this case some judges will score this round to the champion. The idea here is that you have to take the title from the champ. This is the mind set of some Judges. Secondly, sitting ringside its hard to tell how effective some shots land. I feel Holy landed the more effective shots, but he threw less total punches than Valuev even if Valuevs shots were less powerful or blocked. As a judge sometimes you score rounds on work rate alone and Holy left doubt on a lot of rounds with his Horrific work rate. I had no problems with a draw in this fight based on evander giving up most of the later rounds and essentially running half of the fight. I find even the judge who had it 1 point for Valuev acceptable. the 8-4 valuev card was a blind judge. You have to take the title. Evander wasnt aggressive enough in this respect. he never hurt valuev and threw less total punches. He moved away and didnt press any action. he fought the last few rounds much like DLH and trinidad. One thing to always remember, if you leave doubt in the Judges minds you can expect a shabby decision or controversial. In this tremendously lackluster fight there was doubt in my mind as a Judge. There is no one to Blame but Holy not being aggressive enough.
Holyfield just ran around the ring, did not seem to care if he won and Valouev just wanked around the ring. There was no fight here, just a very boring sparring session, not even a good one at that. Holyfield got tired, so what would have happened if Valuev had been aggressive? Valouev needs to fight his fight and fire his trainer. Holyfield is sad. He will get knocked out vs. Klitschkos, even Arreola would knock him out.
You have to take the title. Holy some rounds seems to throw less than 15 total shots. I was generous to Evander on my 115-113 card because when he did land they were clean hard shots, mostly left hooks. Holy only needed another 15% effort to clearly win this fight. had he just 1-2 more flurries per round he would have clearly won it. But, he left doubt on many rounds and thats why he lost the fight.
