IMO, putting the biggest attraction on FREE TV would have been a HUGE boost for both CBS and PBC. Sorry, but putting the bulk of the blame on Floyd's shoulders is just wrong.

Just a little bait & switch. Floyd knows every con in the book. Curious to see how hard they are going to work this final fight angle even though we know he is going to try to arrange money grab with Manny and the chances of the really being his last fight are about zero. Floyd is a great hustler

I'm curious to know what kind of a pay cut exactly was Floyd asked to take in order to air the fight on CBS.

Floyd is already being paid, in his base pay alone, somewhere in the vicinity of 30 mil. CBS has allegedly lost money on certain fight(s) of Floyd's. I don't know what kind of expenses they would incur in airing a fight on free TV so I hesitate to assume that they could find a way to raise the necessary money and pay Floyd his base.

I'd love to know the answer to that as well.

Were they asking Floyd to take a $5 million hit? Or were they asking for something closer to half his contractual guarantee?

Either way, Floyd shouldn't reasonably be expected to take a financial hit. Not saying that it would be admirable. I know in professional team sports, a superstar may rework his contract and take a cut to benefit the team, which in turn can help benefit the individual in terms of legacy, and by extension, possibly endorsement offers and things of that nature.

Are there any specific examples of boxers taking a significant pay cut to suffice the wants of a network? I'm sure there are, but I can't think of any such instance off the top of my head.

    Yes, that was my recollection.

But HBO isn't network TV. It's a premium cable channel.

It's very likely that Floyd ends up negotiating a deal with HBO after this, even if it's just for one more fight.

I don't believe he's retiring after this one.

SHO probably has to make it PPV so they can maximise profit on it and be able to prove what they have done for Floyd earnings wise to make sure he doesn't go to HBO for number 50

That will be some bidding war

Floyd made a huge mistake if this is true.

He may have made less money in the short term, but considering he markets a wide range of items like apparel - he will make less in the medium and long term going PPV. A wiser, more savvy man would have taken a near term pay cut to basically be paid still large money to advertise his brand to millions.

Which is probably why Haymon was for it. Big Al would understand at least that much.

He also used the exposure to build up his companies name brand. Floyd should consider it at the benefit of his promotional banner, but the man is very selfish and that's a fact that we all know.
