Recently, Danny Garcia vs. Lucas Matthysse.

It wasn't essential that Lucas fulfilled his duty as favourite but the fact he didn't even manage to get a few haymakers off was rather disappointing considering the hype.

I actually enjoyed that fight. :huh

Lucas landed his share, but Garcia took them very well.

Gamboa managed to make several potentially FOTY canidates into snoozers... He became more safety first and negative as he moved up, not that I blame him.

His matches against Ponce, Barros and Perez immediately come to mind. You can count the Salido fight in there as well.

Recently Jhonny Gonzalez/Arce somehow managed to crawl along, though that's more of a result of Jhonny playing it sage and slowly taking Arce apart.

That's the one I thought of. But you know Dwight didn't look all that great going into it. Certainly not as sharp as the guy that fought Saad. He looked about 25% worse and those great reflexes kind of like dissappeared. Just enough where things weren't the same. Tyson gets a pass for showing some wear and tear but Qawi doesn't. And those Cruiser efforts really weren't A+ any more for him either. Always like a B type performance.

But Spinks didn't set the world on fire either. I thought it looked like Qawi was in slow motion and Spinks was not taking advantage and certainly not taking risks. I thought he had a silver platter and he should've had a Marvin Johnson type result.

Lots of buildup and just not an A game in the ring. To say how bad it really was, I was thinking the lazy EM Muhammad could have beat both that night if he showed up at his best. But Spinks and Qawi took a page out of the listless EM Muhammad in a long awaited fight.

Spinks-Qawi came to mind immediately, for the reasons redrooster and zadfrak have stated above.

Quarry-Ellis is another. This was the final for the WBA Heavyweight Championship Tournament in 1968. Ellis had that sneak right hand that had dropped Bonavena, and Quarry could really produce fireworks when he pulled the trigger. What unfolded was a cautious, tactical fight with Quarry trying to lure Ellis to the ropes and Ellis having none of it. So much of the fight was a waiting game. Ellis did enough to win, but as a fight it was a dud.
