Another common lie on this forum and also pushed by the Western media is this, "The best American HW boxer is in the NFL or NBA!" This argument is that a top Western athlete can make more money in other sports than pro boxing. And the bast in boxing today are only there because of a vacuum created when the "REAL BEST" went into other sports. How true is this? Here's what I found out! In 1978 the highest earning HW boxer was Leon Spinks who made 4.5 million (US. dollars) in two fights vs Muhammad Ali of that year. In that same year Larry Byrd entered the NBA with a roockie contract of 650k. Now, according to the online inflation calculator Spinks would of earned approximately 16 million (US. dollars). And Byrd just over 2 million by todays standards. Now, in 2011 according to the top NBA website a roockie contract is approximately 4 million (US. dollars) today. So roockie contracts have doubled in size from 1978 to 2011. But also in 2011 Vitali Klitschko earned approxlmately 30 million (US. dollars). Doubling the earnings of Spinks. So as anyone can clearly see nothing has change! The NBA/NFL argument is just another lie.:hi:
U do realise that a "rookie" is a new player that has just been signed from a college, they do not earn anywhere near what the super stars does..
Didnt read Part 1 & 2 were awful, I'm guessing this is equally ******ed http://www.eastsideboxing.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=7
The highest paid NBA player in 2011 was Kobe Bryant who earned approximately 26 million. 4 million less than Vitali. The top NFL player earned 23 million. 6 million less than Vitali...
Fair enough.. But they don't pick their sport for the money.. If they did, you could make the case that it is a safer route to money, how much do a boxer who is making his pro debut make? Compared to an NFL rookie..
How is it safer? You do know about the recent revelations on the NFL's bounty programs were money is paid to injure opponents dont you?
Victor Ortiz made less then that against Mayweather. Danny Garcia just won a belt and he made 200 000. :conf It´s obvious that athletes get pulled away from boxing because they are offered scholarships, money and luxuries. Andre Ward is a Olympic gold medalist, won the Super Six tournament and made 900 000 against Froch. That´s decades of hard work and to be honest, it´s not showing when some NBA rookie gets 4 mil.
I think the highly touted guys like Ward, Dirrel, Wilder the KLitschkos, etc earn about 10K/ fight early on in their careers. That's not a figure set in stone, but Wilder, who has been highly touted since his AM days doesn't make 30K too often. And he's in his 3rd or 4th yr.
Cheerleaders make more than journeymen Bubby is a ******, trying to make a point (which is incorrect) & failing badly.
