Is Joe Louis the best HW counter-puncher in history? Who do you rate above him in this department.

I didn't even see the punch for the first KD until the slo-mo replay.

This fight has bits and bobs in common with Schmeling II don't you think?

I firmly believe he is the best counter-puncher in HW history. He countered with great timing, accuracy and precision. He was like a surgeon at work. I have seen this video before and I can see some similarities with his second fight with Schemling.

The left hook was great, but i like that quick right uppercut moments later even better. So incredibly hard to land a punch like that, not to mention from such a position and with such effectiveness.

What makes this performance even nice is that, evidently, Retzlaff was a pretty good boxer. At least he has a decent record with some pretty good wins.

Louis was such a beautiful puncher. All the punches are thrown with perfection and maximum leverage. His handspeed was incredible. He ushered in a new era of boxing. There was nobody in the heavyweight like Louis before Louis.
