Today I watched Bob Fitsimmons wth his famous "solar plexis "punch, fighting under a new alias named Gennady Golovkin...Old Fitz still can hit to the body for a man who was born in 1863... GG, doesn't waste a motion and reminds me of what old Fitz's precise punching power must of looked like...Old Fitz flattened powerful heavy bruisers like Peter Maher, Tom Sharkey, James J Corbett, Gus Ruhlin, and others who outweighed him by 25-35 pounds...Well Gennady Golovkin has terrific power in his well placed punches to the body for a middleweight similar to the young Tony Zale.. What say you ?
Only time will tell, but he hits like the oldtimers described Ruby Bob Fitszimmons. With his baby faced slight smile he is in reality a killer...
A tremendous puncher, far too strong, fast, and ferocious for any of these middleweights. Of course, history is replete with feared punchers meeting a polished boxer with excellent defense and getting schooled. That said, I'm not seeing anyone at 160 who will be able to do that to Golovkin at this point. It isn't fair to ask him to move up in weight before he has cleaned out the middleweight division, but once he has, then he should move up and fight Ward. But don't expect him to land anything on Andre.
By all accounts, there will never be another Bob Fitszimmons. A middleweight from the waist down, a heavyweight from the waist up, thus explaining his 160-65 pounds...But this Golovkin is something, with over 300 amateur bouts and with his pro career , he has never been floored....
Watch the Ouma fight, he displays an iron chin throughout. It's certainly no deficiency. He ate flush punches from Macklin a few nights ago as well, out of the clinch with his guard relaxed even. I've never seen him stunned/flustered.
Gennady Golovkin and Lucas Mathysee, both from outside of America, are my 2 favourite current fighters....I love the oldtimers because of their competition, and fighting OFTEN and the BEST challengers, BUT this Golovkin is the real deal with his coolness and perfectly placed punches without a WASTED motion....Beware middleweights and change your occupation !!!
You know, there are different plexuses. Sometimes you think it's one plexus, but it's another plexus altogether, it will turn out. Or not even a plexus at all, sometimes. Then other times it turns out it is the plexus you thought it was.
