Very good article. Love the Fruedian Slip in it too: Let’s remember that Manos de Piedra won his first title (WBA Lightweight) in 1972 and his last title (WBC Supper Middleweight) in 1989, that’s a full 17 years later!
There's some merit to the type of style he describes which can beat Roberto. I always thought that Leonard must have watched film of Duran - Viruet in preparation for his second fight with Duran. That was not Leonard's typical style but something he showed he could do when he had to. BUT it took great, larger fighters and Duran's decreased footspeed to pull this off.
I need to re-watch the first Dejesus fight. Other than that, I think Lampkin fought the best fight against prime Duran. I'd like to see a thorough breakdown on film of Duran's power. It's sometimes difficult to detect at normal speed why his punches are so powerful. Timing, technique, physical ability, and surely some naturally heavy hands.
A Freudian slip is an error, numbnuts. However, it wasn't for the Super (or Supper) Middleweight title, just Middleweight. So it's an error either way.
No a Freudian slip isn't just an error. It's an error because a person was thinking about something else and the mistake appeared in that. That is to say that the other poster is saying that the person who made the mistake was thinking about eating supper.
Obviously it was a Freudian slip, because it wasn't even for the Super Middleweight title. In order for him to even get to the error of "Super" he'd had to have been thinking at least passively about Duran's propensity for gluttony, but to then skip over even that, straight to "Supper". The case is cut and dry. Meal with it. *puts on sunglasses*
Now your retracting your other claim that a Freudian slip is just an error and you accepted my explanation. How do you know if he was subconsciously thinking about Duran's bad diet. What if he was writing this article in the evening and he was hungry and hadn't ate his supper yet? Pure speculation.
A Freudian slip is to have something come out in daily conversation that one has in their subconscious. Its usually some repressed urge or desire. Maybe the guy is on a diet and trying to suppress his desire to eat. Then while typing he writes supper instead of super. In this example Ive presented it would be a Freudian slip.
