The undeniable truth of facts: Mayweather-Cotto

    By Cesar Pancorvo: 2007.

It seems natural that the winner of Mayweather-Hatton fights the winner of Mosley-Cotto: the Welterweight Champion against the #1 contender, two big stars, two P4P fighters. Cotto beats Mosley, in a close and competitive fight, and Mayweather beats Hatton by knockout, after trouble in the early rounds. Hatton’s weight, the night of the fight, is similar to the weight of his fights as Junior Welterweight Champion. Many people say Mayweather defeated a blown-up Junior Welterweight. Many people don’t remember that Mayweather started at Super Featherweight.

Cotto beats Mosley and, weeks later, Mayweather beats Hatton…A bout between Mayweather and Cotto now seems like a natural consequence that should happen in boxing, and that will materialize in the next months.

Mayweather is asked about Cotto, about his future plans. He says he’ll be away from the rings for some time, he wants to rest, he wants to semi-retire. We remember that he said something comparable after defeating Oscar de la Hoya. He didn’t tell the truth in that moment, and we should have expected that he wouldn’t tell the truth now. And yes, his semi-retirement is apparently not true. A rematch with De la Hoya is being talked about, for September 2008. A rematch with Oscar de la Hoya is almost done. Mayweather doesn’t have intentions of fighting Cotto, apparently. Many people say that Mayweather is ducking Cotto. Many people say that Mayweather is a fraud. Many people think Mayweather is ducking Cotto. Vox populi, vox dei?

Cotto beats Mosley. Bob Arum, his promoter, unexpectedly starts making plans for him weeks before the Mayweather-Hatton mega fight. He says that it is possible for Cotto to face Joshua Clottey and then Antonio Margarito. He doesn’t mention Mayweather. Cotto always does what his promoter tells him to do. After the Mayweather-Hatton bout, Evangelista Cotto talks: he says that they prefer a fight against Oscar de la Hoya instead a fight against Floyd Mayweather because Oscar de la Hoya is more marketable. So, before and after Mayweather-Hatton, Cotto doesn’t seem to have intentions of fighting Mayweather.

In January, Bob Arum orchestrates Cotto’s near future. He will fight Alfonso Gomez, who is not even a Top10 Welterweight. Fans divide, some approve the fight and some condemn it. Then the winner, probably Cotto, will likely face the winner of the rematch between Kermit Cintron versus Antonio Margarito. This is what Arum possibly wants: Antonio Margarito against Miguel Cotto. Again, Cotto doesn’t seem to have intentions of fighting Mayweather.

I don't know why they don't want a fight. After the mosley fight he obviously belongs in the ring with the best in the world.

They denied everything Eze said. He told them Arum didn't want the fight and they said bull****. They swore Floyd was ducking Cotto. You can't duck somebody that's not after you. Arum is hoping Floyd gets old overnight just like I said.
