Ezzard Charles of the Joe Louis fight vs George Foreman of the Jimmy Young fight. Can Charles outbox this version of Foreman or does Foreman’s Power get Ezzard out of there?
Jimmy Young was 6'2 215 or so pounds. Charles was a 170 pounder who decided to bulk up later on in his career. So because a much bigger Jimmy Young could run from Foreman doesn't mean the smaller Charles could do it. There are weight classes for a reason. Foreman by brutal early knockout.
I thought those were ages. I don’t know what Ezz had left at 50, but probably a tad more than Big George at 77.
Your right about weight classes but Charles won the heavyweight title and defended it about 8 or 9 times. He was effective as a heavyweight. That doesn't mean I'm picking him over Foreman because George was a terror in the ring.
Ezz had Lou Gherig's disease at that point. He was wheelchair bound, and couldn't use his arms, or talk.
If young could beat George so could Charles. It’s a big task for anyone and you have to fight a perfect fight. Always thought Charles was a terrible matchup for George. That being said it’s a toss up. Charles was that good.
Charles could possibly pull off a decision win, he'd have to take some hefty wallop s but he proved he could.
