The Cincinnati Cobra, had a beautiful jab, a masterful boxer with great skills, possessed speed, agility and superb power on his combos, and beautiful footwork. He was natural light heavy weight that held the heavyweight title and defended it 9 times. I make the comparison as both being small men working their way up to heavyweight. Both having superb ring skill but Ezzard had more power than Evander. At least from how I can see it.

    Let's discuss. :bbb

Hmm interesting, Ezzard maintained his small build throughout though while Evan's bulking to heavy seems umm, a bit dubious. I think he put on close to 20 lbs of muscle in like 9 months, which is mind boggling considering the high amount of cardio involved with boxing. Anyhow I would agree Ezzard had it all and his explosive power was devastating.

Nice one. I don't think I can sign off on that Charles had much more skill than Holyfield. I believe Evander relied on brawling and banging because the new version had the tools to bang. If Charles had the same "vitamins" that Evander used and had 20-30 lbs of lean mass it would have been scary.

you don“t know a single word about boxing.. and i suspect who you are , little ******... evander holyfield was naturally much bigger than charles and did hit harder.. evander was a natural cruiser.. charles did increment his weight to 180s pounds... he was a natural 175 pounder.. evander had the bigger frame and he was a natural 190 pounder, charles was naturally 15 pounds lighter

when Evander was an amateur I saw the resemblance not that they looked so much alike but EH could have been his son, that being said Charles was far more skilled and fluid and I think he had sharper power

I think I know who this is and you don't know your boxing. Holyfield and Charles were in completely different weight classes. Evander was a fat kid who took up boxing to lose weight so he isn't the same frame as light heavyweight.

I think you are making statements that make yourself look bad. Evander fought as an amateur and at the beginning of his pro career as a Light heavy/ Cruiser. And while Ezzard was quite a lot smaller as amateur and beginning of his pro career, he grew into his LHW and CW if it was around, frame very well. a young Evander looks a lot like Ezzard, those wide shoulders, and narrow waist.

Was right along side of Holyfield in 96,97 he had a huge frame 6'2 1/2 broad shoulders chest plated he could've have walked into mr. Universe competition.
No he is regarded as one the hardest punchers of all time #77 on ring magazine Charles never even made it. God could Holyfield hit.

As I said earlier, Evan Fields packed on like 20 pounds within a 9 month period in his jump to heavyweight, and in the amateurs and the beginning of his pro career he was a light heavyweight that looked a lot like Ezzard. Again, this is before Heavyweight back before his traps magically popped up... Now, Evander is no doubt a harder puncher, but p4p i give the edge to Ezzard. He would box masterfully and put everything into his punches. He was explosive, and the way he knock out look prove it.

Okay fair enough I see what your saying. Personally I think that power is a gift. Did Charles fight off the back foot? Holyfield fought of the back foot and still landed heavy punches then went back out and into the pendulum that he mastered.

Evander was older when he turned pro. I think Charles was in high school when he turned pro. Without the bodybuilding Evander would never have got any bigger than Charles. However, if the heavyweight division in general all used post war training methods across the board in the 1990s I doubt much of them would have been heavier than 200lb, apart from say Lewis and Bowe. If that was the case Evander would still have been good enough at 190lb to do what he did do at heavyweight.

Charles was a brilliant middle, who became one of, if not the greatest light-heavies, and a respectable heavy who unfortunately seems to be remembered only for Louis, JJW and Marciano fights, when past his best.

Holyfield might have been able to make a mark at L-H if he had turned pro young like moorer, but was growing too fast. Greatest cruiser with a wonderful resume a H-W is no bad legacy though.

I see similarities in that both men were fearless in taking on the best their eras had to offer, no matter what the scales said. Both fought well outside their comfort zones as Heavies, but Holy had the longer career at the biggest weight and gave us some great memories there, whereas Charles fought at top level from 160 ( and didn't have a cruiser belt to aim for) all the way through to Heavyweight, when his best work was probably done at 175.
Similar but not the same. And I will count myself lucky if I see their like again.
