Now obviously it is not a 2v1 @Thatoneguywhoalwaysmakesthatjoke. This is the best of all the fighters at HW. 12 rounds not 15 the ruleset and equipment of Listons era.
Liston beats both I see Charles being able to weather an assault from sonny with slipping and ducking to avoid the worst. But as the rounds went by, Liston turns into a boxer and try to box with Charles. But since Ezzard was a master pugilist, i think Sonny would obviously realize he should get Charles out there early, and i think he would. But if he doesn't make it happen, i think it becomes a boring chess match, and in this case i cannot predict who would win this. As for walcott, if anything is right, he lose an incredibly close decision, since he was a bit better than Machens. I can also imagine him getting knocked out late, if screw up and goes inside to exchange with the big bear.
Liston was Charles sparring partner and Charles didn’t think much of him...although that certainly wasn’t a prime Liston. I’d give Charles the better chance of the two because of that. Think both trouble Liston a lot actually but I’d favor Sonny to catch up to them eventually.
Sonny could not chase Machen down for a stoppage he isn't catching Ezzard or Jersey Joe for a stoppage if they are playing matador.
I read that but I believe Sonny was really green at that point. I don't think he is catching them for a stoppage epically if they decide to fight really negative much as Machen lost nearly every round he still wasn't stopped and I reckon two defensive cute fighters like Walcott and Ezzard are making it to the final bell whatever the outcome.
I respectfully have to favor Liston to beat both of those men. As much as I love Ezzard Charles and rank him higher than sonny p4p, I just don’t think he’d have an answer to that piston-like jab and monstrous power.
I rank Liston higher on my All Time Heavyweight list, but, head to head, I think both of them manage to decision Sonny in 12 (most times). If they fight multiple times, Sonny catches them occasionally.
I favor Liston, but i don't agree with this idea that Liston just bombs them out easily. Walcott did arguably beat a good version of Joe Louis. They both could last the distance, but if Liston does pull off a stoppage, it's mid to late rounds.
