Ezzard Charles: How good was he?

    U know there is d possibility of Charles ahead on points , beating Toney , until Toney catches him with a good counter punch / sharp combination and down goes Charles . Who beat Toney handily / emphatically ? even his old / totally out of shape / both versions ? and this is assuming prime vs relatively good shape I suppose .

    If you've watched the prime LHW version you'll see that he has a clear gap in physical ability over both Toney and Hopkins even in their primes at that weight. I don't think they could cope with that type of assault any better than Marshall.

    Bill Miller, who taught Toney to fight (Emmanuel Steward, too), was an Ezzard Charles disciple. Charles would beat Toney and Hopkins emphatically. They are both very skilled-two of my recent favorites- against Tarver and Jirov, while Charles was incredibly skilled against Moore, and Burley, and Marshall, and so on.
