I think Charles is probably the greatest lightheavyweight of all time. He didn't win the title in that class because he wasn't given the opportunity. His dominated some fellow all time greats like Archie Moore. They say he lost some aggression after killing Baroudi. As a heavyweight he was not at his very best but he won because he knew every inch of that ring.
Someone I recall had put highlights that were fully randomized in their choosings that they were but to say that they had been placed over the dance music of the samba pa ti but then you could actually spot of the patternicity of the patterns to his movement and making it overtly predictive like as such as the text when you Google search for things verbally in your words and that means that if I could predict his movings to the sound and rhythms of the beats in my head then any professional fighter could do this and break his rhythm. This is how Rocky Marciano defeated him. This is probably then how everyone beat him and how he could in a world with easily obtained footage throughout Youtube ubiquitous as such that they are could have defeated this man because of his movments on the feet of predictability and proofed that he is not genius. You MUST think of these thing when you are try to make ATG listing. Excuse me please for my English but I was born in Missouri. But I support this threadstarter as a new person to these forum and in good faith has made all of the points for his lovesaken on the agrument he hath posed. Poise. Umbrella.
Charles couldn't get past Ken Overlin in two tries. Lloyd Marshall stopped him and had him down seven times to boot. Obviously he was a good fighter, but all the footage I've seen of him he looks slow and lethargic. Maybe there just isn't any footage of his better fights. Roy Jones made him look like he was in slow-motion. Yes, I'm aware that he beat Archie Moore twice, and he probably would have beaten Billy Conn had they fought. I always thought Charles reminded me of Evander Holyfield for some reason. A lot of old-timers revere him as a "Christ-like" figure in boxing, I think that is a bit much. I don't see him as a competitor to Ray Robinson's pound-for-pound title, but that's me.
100% agree except, citing the completely over-the-hill Louis as a great win, nonetheless first on the list, is a bit of a reach....
On the whole, I still actually think Ezzard might be underrated. Perhaps not here in the Classic Forum, but in the grand scheme.
Well,,,,,there was only one title when Ezzard fought not four in each division so facing 23 ain't a big deal
I think his move to heavyweight was influenced greatly by the bigger paychecks, as Bob Foster who wasn't durable enough to fight at heavyweight said when asked why he fought Ali and Frazier he replied." that's where the money is"
looks incredible here This content is protected he was a teenager when he fought Overlin. He also destroyed marshall twice in rematches once charles matured into a man
Not a lot of straight punches thrown in that highlight reel. Just hook after hook after hook. Even his combinations in that reel are left hook, right hook, left hook. Ezzard Charles was fine. There's nothing magical or incredible about his style on film, though. Really.
Burley and Moore, two all time great P4P guys dominated. Marshall,Bivins, to come back and defeat multiple times, huge. Oh, and then moved up to heavyweight, his third division and did ok too …
