Ezzard Charles as ayoung middleweight sensation,1941/1942,against the great Ray Robinson, circa 1950/1951. Who wins, the young Ezzard Charles, or the 29 year old Robinson? I'm stumped...

Hard to say, not sure what Charles was like then, he was pre-prime, but he did beat Burley twice at the weight

If they're figting at Middleweight, then it'd be much closer than people would think as SRR was far more vulnerable at this weight than at WW. With that said, I still believe he wins a close UD.

Robinson by knockout. The tactical aspect of the fight could be more or less even, but I think Robinson's firepower would eventually do the younger, less experienced version of Charles in.

I'm not sure...I remember reading that Ray Arcel thought Charles might beat Robinson at middlewieght due to how he handled Charley Burley.

Footage of Charles in this time frame would be nice for this, I cant answer without that.

I will say this tho, of all the MWs Ive seen, I wouldnt bet on ANY version of ANY of them to beat the SRR that stopped Lamotta in 1951.

That was as close to peak Robbo as we have on film & he looked the ****, he looked every bit like one of the most complete & greatest boxers who ever lived.

    Really?

Do you not think Charles has the fire-power to get Robinson's respect and make it a dull-ish fight?

One time trainer of Ezzard Charles, Ray Arcel:

'The Word "great" is misused. Charles was naturally great. When Charles was a middleweight, I don't know if even Ray Robinson could have beaten him.'
