Ezzard Charles replaces Zora Folley against Muhammad Ali

He was good enough to make it past an old Louis pounding his face with the jab all night. Why not?

 

I don’t consider the 1950 version the very best of Charles but he was still damn good. He might have extended Ali the distance at least

 

Could go the distance, but definitely loses.

 

Ali beats him on points.

 

Ali 9-6, 9-5-1, 9-4-2. Charles might hit the deck late. Would be interesting fight. Ali couldn’t screw around.

 

If Ezzard Charles was in 175lbs top form before he started to succumb to his illness he would beat Ali for my 0.2$ he was just so much better.
Technical wizz like that and not much of a size difference? Please make no mistake he had the power to make Muhammad Ali think, you’d have to try very hard to convince me he had the skills to hang with the Cobra.
I don’t even rate Ali as the best “H2H” heavyweight he was great for the weight but he had his flaws, flaws Charles would see with no problems he was one of the smartest guys in the boxing world.

 

If Charles wasn’t having to make weight for LHW as this was scheduled for HW he’d probably come in at 180-185lbs.
I meant more his LHW years as a snap shot in time rather then how big he’d be on the fight night.

 

Think it’s a much more interesting fight then many would think. Ali could win by points or KO. But Charles would make it his closest fight to date at that time.

 

I think so too. While I have a lot of respect and like for zora Folley, Charles was a much better fighter. Although to be fair, Folley was basically finished when Ali fought him but still

 

Ezzard is durable enough to last the distance but Muhammad's points victory is decisive and beyond debate. The skillset in this bout is off the chart.

 

Ali gets the win absolutely but Intresting fight along the way.
