I don't know much about Wallace, but looking at his record I feel bad for him considering that he was thrown in there with Charles and Bivins also before this fight after having done basically nothing in his career. Anyway, it was a nice showing by Charles that I had never seen before. Have you seen any footage of Charles at Lightheavy McGrain?
Wallace won nearly every round against bivins before getting caught. Wallace was rated # 10 in the world by ring magazine when he fought charles, wallace had scored a couple big Kayos prior and with his size and reputation he was considered formidable. This shows you charles was far from washed up in 1954
Thanks for the info.:good You know what happened after the fight with Charles that caused such a rapid decline and why he only fought for such a short amount of time?
Thanks Mac, Wallace wasn't as good as some other 50's heavies but he was a decent fighter with wins over Dunlap and Gilliam ,good performance from Charles dropping the bigger man 3 times.
A very calm and collected Charles great lead right and double hook, power jab. This explosive win over the 6"3 Wallace and a stunning 2 rd KO over Bob Satterfield earned EZZ the top spot for a shot a Marciano....Charles is truley underated as a heavy when in top form....he walked down Wallace.....GREAT FIND
I have the same sentiments. I've heard that the only fight at LHW that there is film of is against Marshall, and I've never seen it. He looks so impressive at HW, I can only imagine what he was like at his absolute peak as a LHW.
