I agree with that. I don't diminish what Tarver has accomplished despite the obvious handicap of starting his pro career at a rather late age. However I do not believe he's quite on the level of Ezzard Charles, skill-wise or resume-wise. The southpaw style, height and solid punching power may trouble Charles but the weaknesses in stamina and ability will keep him from actually winning. Charles winning by KO is not so outlandish as it may seem to some, Ezzard could really hit and he was much more capable than the likes of Glen and Reggie Johnson, Eric Harding who were all able to trouble Tarver. Tarver has a solid chin but it's mostly his defensive style that has kept him from being knocked out. He also hasn't faced that many big punchers. This content is protected
That pretty well sums it up for me...and I'll go further and say that Charles was in a different league from any lightheavy of the past 20 years.
