Gets smashed in the late rounds after getting slowed down with body punching and consistent jabs.
There's a world of difference between a 22 and a 36 year old Louis who bruised up Ezzard's face.
The key difference here is that Schmeling could KO Louis. Charles can't.

 

If we're talking about really PEAK Charles, he wins a decision here but he ain't knocking Joe out like Schmeling did. IMO Schmeling hit harder.

 

Joe comes in under prepared and end's up losing a decision, getting battered along the way .

 

Joe Louis was only in his 2nd year as a pro the depth of knowledge Ezzard Charles could draw on in this hypothetical I believe puts him too far out of reach for Louis it might be an outclassing? this is a guy who fought and beat Moore, Burley, Bivins, Marshall and Maxim - the Louis he beat was physically not the same but a much smarter fighter.

 

Louis’s chin is underrated, He didn’t get hit much or hard often because his defence was practically second to none at HW (true HW’s not Toney, Charles, Moore etc) but when he did he’d go down for a second or two, Ali got dropped by Cooper BAD Louis had his flash KD’s but he never really looked that hurt ever unless it was a proper beating like what Schemling dished out on the young bomber.

 

Louis Knocks Charles out. Did you see what old, no reflexes Joe did to Charles face? The Younger Louis walks through Charles and busts him up for a stoppage around 8. Schmeling won because he had a cannon that had to keep Joe honest, Charles doesn’t.

 

Still the same guy who destroyed Baer and Carnera in very impressive fashion, I see him winning late. Styles make fights with regard to losing to Max who is also a much harder puncher at heavy than Ez.
