How does prime Charles fare against the following 80s heavyweights? Mike Weaver Mike Dokes Gerry Cooney Frank Bruno Greg Page Pinklon Thomas Tim Witherspoon Jose Ribalta Quick Tillis
Charles beats them all, given hes allowed to pace himself as an 80s heavy and come in near top condition every night. If he fights monthly he might drop the odd fight. Of the 80s, peak Holmes and Tyson are the only fighters I would make clear favorites. And for that matter, Charles beat the Holmes who turned the title over to Spinks, and could upset the green Tyson who got a learning experience against Tillis. Charles legacy as an all time great wasnt just beating similiar sized men, it was how well he performed against all comers from 175 and up on such a demanding schedule.
Ezzard probably beats all of them, though Dokes, Page, and Tillis have the potential to give him problems. Major problems.
He loses to the best versions of Thomas, Page and maybe Cooney and Spoon. But then again, how many times did we see the best versions of those guys.
The very best of Charles should defeat Tillis Ribalta Cooney Bruno Weaver. He could maybe defeat but as easily lose to Spoon Thomas Dokes Page
Dokes, Cooney, Page, Thomas, and Witherspoon all could beat Charles, assuming they hadn't been on a drugs or eating binge rather than training, but there's no guarantee of that. I'd pick Charles over all because you could at least be totally confident that'd he'd actually put some effort in.
Lol so many old casual fans in the classic part of this forum. How many 6'0 170 pound heavyweight champions are there now days? Wait there are 0. There is a reason there are weight classes. Each of these guys listed would destroy Ezzard Charles. I can't see him even making it out of one round with any of these guys unless he ran.
