Ya, a prime-for-prime fight likely would have lasted longer, but Quarry would have suffered the same fate. Maybe round 8 or 9.

Barring a huge punch I would big Charles. Especially from 1944 to 1950 roughly.

Johnson beat a twilight Charles whilst Moore lost to a prime time Ezzard.

How would you pick him to win? By decision or stoppage?

    My thoughts exactly.
I favor Charles to ride thru the smashing punches from Williams, to either points win or a late ko.
It is a potential dangerous fight for Ezz, we know William s was an hard puncher, tough with it.
He'd be going all out for the ko.
But Charles survived Marciano over 15, past prime, so for that I give it to the cobra.

Williams beat Holman who beat Satterfield AND Charles.

Williams beat Miteff and Johnson who beat Valdes who beat Charles.

It's not as simple as that as you see.

That being said I'd favor Charles (Though l'd favor a peak Williams over the past it Charles who lost to Valdez).

Though Ezzard is the favorite I think he 's in real danger with any big banging heavyweight.

I used to think so, but now I'm not so sure. I might be slightly leaning towards Quarry now. Quarry and Norton used to spar all the time in Quarry's younger days, and according to all eyewitnesses (including some posters here) Quarry would batter him all over the ring every time they were in the ring together and even knocked him out cold on occasions.

Charles was beginning to wane, but was not finished, as evidenced the following year.

I've heard that, but it is true that some fighters are completely different in the gymn as opposed to in the ring. Remember Roy Williams?
