How do you think the great Ezzard Charles would do against today's top Light Heavyweights such as Andre Ward, Kovalev, Jack, Stevenson, Beterbiev, Barrera, etc. Would his old school style work against the current top tier 175 lbers? I'd say he KO's all of them, and yes even Ward.
Ward is the best out of that lot, Kovalev`s punch would be a danger but Charles defense would help him hugely, Kov doesn`t throw as many punches as Rock did at heavyweight. The others wouldn`t be as much of a threat but Jack`s punch variety and volume was amazing against Cleverly but he got hit way more than Charles would of against an opponent like Cleverly. Ward v Charles is 50/50, in my humble opinion. I don`t really know the others but I check them out, thanks, I`m starting to get interested in boxing again.
I agree but not if the long reach of Kov reaches him first, Charles wouldn`t be able to take Kov`s best shot! Also the shot that put Kov in so much trouble in the Ward fight would have knocked Charles out cold, Ward specifically worked on making his punch more powerful before that match if he did the same in training for a fight with Charles it could swing the KO in Ward`s favor, great fantasy match up.
Kovalev was no Marciano, whom Charles went 15 rounds with. Charles would have figured out Krusher. Ward is different but I do think Charles can either decision or even KO him. Charles was a versatile operator and I can see Charles doing a similar job to what Kovalev did with Ward 1 but more convincingly.
Wha...Charles mixed it up with some of the biggest bangers of all time from 175 and up. He was only stopped once at light heavy due to a hip injury. His durability and punching power is undisputed. He has been tested against Joe Louis, Marciano, Walcott, Satterfield, Elmer Ray, Archie Moore...etc, absolute killers.
Ummm I'm not sure what the problem with this thread is. Or did I miss something? Ezzard Charles is one of the best fighters in the last 50 years, what's so bad about imagining how he might do today?
He took Marciano's shots and is a better boxer than the lot. If Ward fights dirty Charles fights dirtier.
Why does everyone think Kovs got a big punch, he hasn't ! Hes a long range merchant with respectable power and great jab. Charles slaughters kov and probably stops Ward too
Louis was quite old when he fought Charles so didn`t land as much as Kov would also Kov`s reach is longer which is always difficult to evade, Kov`s jab would affect Charles when it landed because it is much harder than Louis`s jab was. Marciano I understand but again the reach might mean Kov will do more damage. Walcott was playing a chess match while Kov would be stalking leading him to land more power shots but yes also taking them, I`m not saying Charles wouldn`t KO Kov either I`m just saying Kov has a chance if he can land enough, he doesn`t have to knock Charles cold with one shot he could wear him down. I feel Marciano`s weight wasn`t too far from Kov`s when he fought Moore so I think Kov could drop Rock the way Moore did and if Kov had fought all the light heavy opponents Moore did his knockout tally could come close to that record, I feel if there is a gap between Moore and Kov`s power it could be more a shade of grey rather than black and white, that`s just the way it looks to me but I could be wrong.
The mintue Ezzard hit Segi the quitter in the body Segi says no mas in Russian. And his fan boys will say Segi was hit with an imaginary low blow.Who ever wrote Sergi kos Charles needs to go back to a sesame street site.
You think Kovs jabs harder than Louis's jab ? everyone above absolutely destroy Kov and ward. Rocky gives them a bone crunching KO loss and neither are the same after, Charles, Moore and Walcott have to much in every department for them imo
