Lets say at cruiserweight. I am convinced that this could be one of the greatest sizzlers of all time. Thoughts?
Be a great fight. I think these two are quite similair. I take Charles. I think he'd be better at imposing his more cautious gameplan and he is the better combination puncher IMO.
Would definitely be a good fight, very evenly matched but I'd have to pick Charles to win by decision.
I don't think it would be a war. I think Charles would keep it from craziness. It would have its moments though.
My take as well. Charles at 189-195 Lbs, had far more experience than Holyfield did at that weight. Holyfield wouldn't likely score a knockout either.
Charles was a natural cruiser at anyrate. Holyfield hadn't matured yet at cruiser. I think Charles schools him, although Holyfield the warrior would get his licks in. Charles UD.
You reckon Charles was a natural cruiser? He seemed to be pretty consistently making the light heavy limit well into his late 20's..after starting out at middleweight. He only was coming in over 190 on a regular basis until the last few years of his career, by that time he was losing quite a few more then he was winning...A lot of people also argue during his whole stay at heavyweight he was past his prime. I think Ezz is just an all round better fighter than Holy but the 6'2 1/2-6'3, Evander with a body cut like Ice T was the naturally (or unnaturally) bigger man.
Charles weighed 196 officialy when he fought Walcott the 4th time and could have made 200 without suffering. He usually weighed 185 during his Heavyweight carrer so yes, he made cruiser easy. Yes. Charles weighed 180 or there abouts when he fought Walcott the first time for the NBA Title in 1949. Charles didn't start his slide at Heavy until his first loss to Walcott in 51. There build pre steroids was about the same. Holyfield with a slight height advantage.
Im not argueing that he could fill out to cruiser size and be very capable there..but I was questioning your statement about Ezzy being a natural cruiser. I felt you were implying that that was his natural weight and his whole 6 or 7 year career at light heavy he was having to cut a lot of weight to stay there, in the vein of someone like Lamotta. I tend to feel his was good sized lightheavy in his prime. Not a man who naturally was a cruiser (or in that day a small heavyweight).
Charles could stop Evander but I think he wins a UD....Charles a more natural fighter without the weights Evander was more muscular and tight
But you did say. And there is a difference between a lt heavyweight and the modern term of cruiserweight. Thats why I took the way I did.
There is no doubt in my mind,Holy was much too strong for Charles, who looks just like him .Holy would have beaten him by decision ,though they both had alot of the same natural assets.....God bless....kenny weldon
