At a comfortable weight, so anywhere between 175-190lbs. Can Tunney outbox the boxer-puncher? Can Charles land his accurate, textbook shots on the elusive Tunney? Both men had great chins as well, this is going the 15. Who does the better work down the stretch? iPhone (as always) so if someone can help me out and post footage of both from the tube (Tunney Vs Carpentier is on there, as is the Dempsey fight, and a fair amount of Charles as well, forget the awful Bivins fight though ) for the uninitiated, it'd be very much appreciated :good Gene Vs Ezzard over 15; give me your analysis :bbb
Tunney is more disciplined and that could be the difference here. Tunney's defense is overrated, aside from the Dempsey fights, he was more of a boxer-puncher himself, although he utilized lateral movement and a lovely jab. Charles, when boxing guys his own size, ideally used a Napoles-esque sort of style as he pressed forward with his jab and countered off any openings that it opened up, letting loose with superb combinations. I think you'd have to favor Tunney to keep Charles off-balance with his jab and movement and land counters as Charles looks to come forward.
Tunney-Gibbons BUT with a brief clip of Tunney training and fighting for the American Forces European title while stationed in France during in World War I. [yt]YnXYeCq7_mU[/yt]
Will have to watch it at work, doesn't even come up when I search your username. Still, gonna' watch Charnley-Brown :happy Davis-Taylor is a classic 'prospect meets veteran' fight as well :good
I'd love to get my hands on the first Charnley-Brown fight. Davis-Taylor is a great fight in the context of 1976 vs. 1984 Olympians, how did you score it mate?
Howard: 4, 5, 6, 9 Meldrick: 1, 2, 3, 7, 8, 10 Taylor 96-94 Davis Hard fight to score though, as Davis covers up and moves for most of the rounds and often does some good work in the last minute or so. Scored it a draw first time I watched it (think I may've given Davis rnd 3, he lands some nice combos in the last minute or so) so a draw was fair I think.
