Foreman could not last more than 5 rounds without totally running out of gas in his prime. Charles could stay away, but get enough shots in while doing so to keep George honest. By rounds 7 or 8, Forman would be ready to collapse, as he was agisnt Ali, Jimmy Young, and Peralta in first fight. Even second peralta fight he was gassed at end.
While I think George would be the betting favorite going into this and perhaps widely....I personally favor Charles in this match-up. I think he would be able to avoid Georges power early an and be controlling the action by the mid round point....I would actually excpect him to win a comfortable 9-6 type of decision and/or posibly stop him late, as I don't think Georges long term endurance was fully proven....2nd career George I would excpect to last the distance but to lose 9-3/10-2 or such...I rate George highl both over all and h2H, but I have always fancied both Charles and Walcott to spring upsets here.
Love Charles but Foreman knocks him out. Charles would try to move but would find himself constantly against the ropes. George was very skilled in cutting the ring off. The Foreman before he lost to Ali went all out for the ko and it is true he had limited endurance but very few in boxing history would get through those first 5 or so rounds. Foreman ko 3.
i think charles is possibly a top 3 fighter lb for lb ever but this is a terrible matchup for him. george by ko in the early to mid rounds. how ever long charles can survive.
I love Charles, hes as slick and savvy and skilled as any Heavyweight Champion in history.. I could see him giving a Holyfield vs Foreman type of performance.. The problem though is hes getting Prime George who was a scary fighter.. My guess is Charles is gone before the 4th round but if he is able to make it past the half way point he could take over and dominate Foreman down the stretch.. My guess though is Foreman KO3...
A prime 192 Charles against a 220 prime Foreman, has mismatch written all over it, Big George kos Charles early rounds. That is taking nothing away from Charles, just way i see it.
A quick look at Foreman's record against technical boxers should tell you that this is anything but a mismatch.
The wrecking ball Foreman demolishes Charles, the physical disparity in my opinon is too much for Charles to overcome. I use the term mismatch, in that i would not buy a ticket at World Championship prices to see the bout, because i have strong opinion on the result. However as with any of these matchups with fighters from different eras, we will never know the definitive answer of who wins, so can only give our informed opinion. Upsets do occur as history shows us, so i might miss one such with Charles and Foreman, but i think not.
Has nothing to do with size or different eras. Charles would be facing a force of nature with George at his best. Once cornered I don't see Charles getting away unscathed.
Charles one of my favorite fighters...with that said...Foreman KO3. If Ezzard somehow makes it past nine...it would get very interesting.
Big George by ko. Charles would be seriously overmatched in power and size and while he might be able to avoid foremans power for a while he would eventually get caught, probably within 4 or 5 rounds. Foreman, while not the fastest puncher, had the ability to strike suddenly, and once he caught charles it would be the beginning of a quick end. Charles would not have the strength to handle george in the clinches and would be hammered to defeat. If charles were about 20 pounds heavier i would give him a better chance but we're dealing with reality here.
