    Charles clearly won but even this Joe had a nasty jab as Ezzard's face was all busted up after the fight ..

    Yeah, this fight was actually pretty brutal though not entertaining. It was unbelievable that both completed the 15 rounds with their left eyes closed.

    That probably had something to do with it, but Louis was also apparently quite eager to regain the title, pegged Charles as an easy fight as a former LHW, and took the fight on relatively short notice at the insistence of his management and had very little actual time to train. He hadn't had any fights since beating Walcott aside from some exhibitions with outclassed opponents which didn't really prepare him for Charles at all. Towards the end Louis was apparently actually in quite a bit of trouble and almost ready to go, but Charles didn't press his advantage, possibly because he feared a trap by Louis or a reluctance to beat up his idol.

    Louis by mid to early KO.

    Charles didn't have Conn's chin, and was too willing to mix it up.
