I usually never ever ever count out the mastery of Charles but I actually see Norton costing to a UD win
I think his Awkward style and height would make it hard for charles to adjust
While charles was an okay puncher with quick hands and accuracy I don't think it produces enough pop to put an end to Norton so I'd have to say he wins here

    But let's discuss :bbb

Kenny did best against boxers, and Charles is the kind of guy he could excel against. Ezzard is a true ATG though, so it's no easy undertaking for Norton.

In ATG list charles usually above norton. Basic on that charles will win. This is tough pick & tough fight.

A good body attack against a smaller man is a great weapon.

Norton has maybe the best body attack in hw history.

Charles would need to move a lot and keep a high volume to take this match, a good body attack will seriously slow him down and if in the latter rounds Norton lands that overhand right, it could be all over.

I favour Charles but I reckon the final stanza will be quite dramatic.

ATG sure . ATG heavyweight no, Norton wins this .
Charles' power would not be enough to keep him away and Ezzard is outsized at close range.

Charles would fight in the pocket and inside of Ken but could also pop shot and hit pretty hard, Charles is not going to run and that were the guys that Ken excelled against. I think Charles finds the mark and gets Ken out of there with his infighting, look at the Wallace, Satterfield fights.....as far as Norton even Jose Luis Garcia who was 188 lbs, Norton was stopped by every puncher he could not back up and Ezz didn't back up for Marciano, he kept firing back hard

    Charles by KO in 4

Geese I don't know if Ezzard had that kind of pop at heavy. Throwing out the first Garcia bout I think Ken would stand up against what Ezzard would catch him with but likely be hurt a few times. A good tough bout with Ezzard landing more head shots to Ken's body punching, pick em.

To respond to a previous poster, and to be fair, the young Norton undertrained for Garcia and simply was 'gassed out' and ready for picking. Interesting that he felt the need to rematch a faded Jose (in Minnesota of all places) in 74-75? to 'avenge' his earlier defeat.
    Back to thread:
IMO EZZ was a top ten ATG! As a LH he was part of the 40's 'freeze out' for black contenders (they all had to fight themselves) Beat Archie, what?, 4 times?
As a heavy he more than held his own with his skills (not to mention he was a tad past prime when he was campaigning as a Heavy.)
    OK, here it is...AGAIN.
Your thread seems to match a 76 HW Norton against a 52 HW Charles.
Let's reverse the matchup and pit a 52 HW Norton against a 76 HW Charles?
Eras again and I'm not going to apologize for bringing it up.
    Out :D

norton is so much bigger and stronger than charles,i think he would have no respect for charles power and just walk him down

jowcol, too bad Minnesota pretty much died when it comes to pro boxing but it was a hotbed for many greats in the earlier days of the 20th century.
