Yeah - MM doesn't get a lot of love on here, at either weight. (too short a tenure at one to mean a damn and didn't belong at the other, is the script in circulation)
I believe that Charles thoroughly outboxes him. Moorer was was more of a big light heavyweight and he could out power his light heavyweight opponents.
Moorer never possessed the best ring I.Q. I think Charles frustrates him as the better boxer and cruises late to a wide win.
Moorer was a beast at light heavyweight, but Charles was a splendid technician. He hung in there with some pretty beastly punchers and atg fighters. I think he takes Moorer out.
I liked Moorer as a LHW but he struggled to make the weight. He would have been great at CW (or at least very good) but he skipped that division to go for bigger and better opportunities. He didn't beat too many notable fighters at LHW though. Moorer beat Leslie Stewart by 8th round KO but keep in mind that he had already been stopped by Marvin Johnson, Virgil Hill, and Donny Lalonde... and they all did it quicker. He also stopped Ramzi Hassan and Frankie Swindell among others. Overall he went 21-0 (21) at LHW and 10-0 (10) in WBO LHW world title fights. At HW he went 1-1 vs. future Hall of Famer Evander Holyfield. Ezzard Charles was never given a shot at the LHW World Title even though he deserved one and is rated as the best LHW ever by many people. He beat Hall of Famers Archie Moore x3 (1 win by KO), Joey Maxim x5, Charley Burley x2, Jimmy Bivins 4 out of 5 (1 win by KO), Lloyd Marshall 2 out of 3 (both wins by KO), and Teddy Yarosz, He also beat World Champion Anton Christoforidis KO3 and drew with Hall of Famer Ken Overlin early in his career. At HW he beat Hall of Famers Jersey Joe Walcott 2 out of 4, Joe Louis, and Gus Lesnevich... a couple of his fights with Maxim were at HW. Charles clearly has the better resume. From 1944-1954 he went 55-8. During this stretch of 65 fights his only losses were: LSD10 Elmer Ray. It was a questionable loss which was avenged by 9th round KO. If not for this highly disputed loss he would have went 42-0 from 1944- (July)1951 including 9-0 in HW World Title Fights. LKOby7 and L15 Jersey Joe Walcott. Charles clearly beat Walcott in their first two fights and their 4th fight could have easily went Charles' way. In their 3rd fight Charles lost the HW title to Walcott after going 9-0 (5) in HW World Title Fights. L10 Rex Layne. A questionable loss, Charles went 2-1 (1) vs. Layne lifetime. L10 Nino Valdes and LSD10 Harold Johnson. Questionable losses in Charles' 94th and 95th pro fights. L15 and LKOby8 Rocky Marciano. A past prime Charles gave Marciano hell but came up a little short in his 98th and 99th pro fights.
Charles/Satterfield like blow out @LHW. Than as an encore, Charles lets Moorer inflate to 220 and knocks him all over the ring until he can't get up anymore.
I don't think Moorer gets enough credit especially at heavyweight. He was a very good technically sound fighter and was very tough. I think Moorer when on top of his game as a heavyweight gives Ezzard Charles a very good fight.
