Who would you take in a fight between these two greats at light heavyweight?

Personally I have trouble saying either could be soundly beat in their absolute primes.

I'd pick Charles here. Jones would meet his match in handspeed and Charles was the superior ring general and had a much better chin. I could see him shaking or even dropping Jones en route to a UD

Charles was too good a heavyweight for Jones. Charles Fought heavyweights every year from 1946 until 1959.

Mind, let’s hope Jones gets tested for PEDs. Who knows what that rascal would look like without those.

Charles is my pick ,he had better fundamentals and was more durable. Not sure he could stop Jones, but I do see him winning.

Charles did almost everything as well as or better than Jones, with the possible exception of Handspeed.

I like Charles to control the distance better until he times Jones and lands something big that Jones can't handle. Probably around the 10th round. Jones would land on Charles too, but Charles had a much better chin than Jones

    Agreed.

I've always believed that Charles, and Moore, would KO Jones around 10, with Charles being tight on the scores, and Moore behind.

    Why the obsession with heavyweights?

This is a light heavyweight match up.

Ezzard Charles is my favorite fighter of all time but I could definitely see a prime Jones winning via his superior athletic gifts. With that said, I would still put money on Charles because I think he is the more complete fighter.

I thought the same way about Toney vs Jones. Toney to me was the more complete fighter over Jones. To bad James couldn't/wouldn't control his weight and put himself at a disadvantage. One thing is for sure, Charles would come prepared against Jones unlike JT did.

    I'd pick Charles.

Burley is one of the closer comparisons for Jones, and Ezzard beat him when he was just a kid.

Because it is relevant to the thread.

Charles was so good he beat good heavyweights without putting weight on.

Charles was an underrated puncher at light heavy
