My grandpa told me that he thinks that Charles in his prime would have out boxed Liston. What do you think

I do not agree. Sadly the fanboy in my heart has to pick Charles. It's mandatory.

UD 10 for Liston - non title

If Title - Ko 12 for Liston

I can see Charles winning more rounds until Liston connects real clean.

I think it’s plausible. I picked Charles by decision on the poll even though I know Liston could have won it as well. Ezzard fought a lot of dangerous guys who could hit including Elmer Ray, Joe Walcott, Archie Moore, an aged Joe Louis and a myriad of others. He was quick, skilled and crafty with a good chin, high work rate and lots of stamina.

Liston would knock him out, Ezzard is too severely outgunned. You have to remember what Liston did in his own era. He decimated pretty much everyone until Ali came around. People were considering him the best heavyweight of all time. He was probably the most dominant HW of all time pre-Ali.

Charles by UD!Charles used to beat Liston in sparings and he wasn't amazed of Liston power! He said Marciano and Louis hit harder and Liston did not hit bery hard for his size!Machen was not Ezzard! He was not skilled, strong, experienced and with good chin like Charles yet he boxed with Liston 12 full rounds!Charles would win by UD!He had footwork and speed to do what Ali did!
And about size I have picture of them both with Charles balooned 240lb and they look same!Charles said that Marciano would beat Liston also!

When Charles was sparring him Sonny had three professional bouts under his belt.

Fancy him beating such a peak version of Liston in sparring, a guy he hired. Wonders never cease.
