Genuinely surprised by some of these answers. Good discussion though.

1950 Joe was a speed demon. He reminded me of a 1960 Floyd Patterson or a 1967 Muhammad Ali.

My grandfather once told me that Charles would beat Liston. But could have been nostalgia on his part as he was in high school during Charles reign.

I pick Liston, but Charles is a live underdog.

Glad to see so many fans of Charles in here. Their predictions basically mirror my own. I just can't see Charles working around that jab well enough to win. Charles could takes jabs away, he could work around or just out-jab them himself, but he never had to do it vs a jab which could leave him comatose and had 12" of reach on him.

    It's just not happening.

I can see Charles making it close, and I can definitely see it going the distance. If Eddie Machen can steal rounds, go the distance and make Liston look bad, then I'm sure Charles can do similar. I'm not saying Charles was an exact copy of Eddie Machen or anything, but I am saying that Charles can do all of the things which made Eddie successful. Then obviously Charles hit harder, was tougher and quicker, and more well rounded. I doubt he'd risk it, but he was a much better infighter than either man. He could have good success here, smothering the longer arms of Liston like he did Louis. But then again, that's asking to be KOed so maybe not.

There's ways Charles can win, but they're not likely enough to make him favourite IMO.

No version of Louis hits as hard as Liston. Ever.

    Liston by KO.
Charles might be greater p4p, but Liston is too powerful for him.
