Say the Charles who beat Louis fought the Tyson that stopped Holmes. But, Charles was able to bulk up like Holyfield was able to. So Charles was 214/215 lbs with approximately the same amount of skill and a proportional increase in punching power. Who takes it?
So, its not really Charles but some imaginary fantasy boxer who can gain 40+ pounds over his best weight and not lose any speed and retain his best form and durability and actually increase his punching power...
If he bulks up like holyfield then he loses a little speed and stamina as well. I guess we could take the speed of the heavyweight charles who actually fought in real life. However stamina wouldnt really affect him since now its a 12 rounder and an old charles fought off marciano for 15 rounds. I cant call charles a defensive master, nor do I think he had the greatest chin. But if guys like james tillis and bonecrusher smith could spoil their way to decisions ive no doubt that ezzard could as well. However that is not ezzards style, is it. Charles will throw, and in combinations, and oblige mike on the inside. Its actually mike who will be looking to clinch with charles pressing the action. tyson had a good chin but the many accurate hard shots that charles would land, and he would land from the start, would make tyson think twice - even the light heavy charles. i dont think this fantasy super charles could knock out tyson cold, but if holyfield could stop tyson on his feet, the smarter, more measured more varied charles could do it to an 88 tyson. at the same time tyson if he caught charles and hurt him it could be over, charles needed a little time to recover and mike most likely would not give him that time. i see a round 5-7 tko for either man, if charles was to fight tyson he would immediately understand the danger and go for the quickest possible stoppage.
So if Charles gets to cheat does that mean Tyson can wear brass knuckles? Im not sure I understand the point.
LOl. Thats who inspired me to start this thread. After all, Holyfield was naturally slightly bigger than Ezzard Charles and smaller than Jersey Joe Walcott.
I doubt if Tyson needed roids to achieve his size. He was a solid 185-190 at 13 years old. Being 220 pounds between ages 20 and 30 would be very possible naturally. Even if he was a casual weigt lifter.
Had ezzard Charles come up in the 80s he likely would have had all of those traits. There would be no chiseled 215 lb 5'10 Tyson in the 50s he would probably weigh around 190 pounds
Exactly. He gained 25 pounds of muscle to compete at heavyweight with no side effects. After losing to Bowe, he gained an additional 12 pounds of muscle in a year to win the rematch. So I'm not sure why that poster is trying to suggest this can't happen in real life, it did, and still does. Charles fought in an era where weight gain like that was impossible, for one thing, he often only had a month between fights. He did add some bulk between Marciano fights and was able to hold his own and inflict more damage, unfortunately Marciano had a better training camp for the rematch himself and was able to step on the gas and get Charles out of there in the middle rounds.
