Yeah, and an amateur Ray Mercer wobbled Savon and nearly stopped him. Definitely means Savon could beat Tyson, Bowe, and Holyfield in their primes.

Damn, Solis should have never turned pro. Just imagine the elite status amongst the all time greats he would have earned in the hearts and minds of his people, that don't know the difference between amateur boxing and professional boxing, if he simply stayed in Cuba.

of course amateur boxing is different than the pros but when you evaluate his skills and the talent he had you can make an assumption that he wouldve done good if not great in the pros.. he had height, power, reach, athletic ability and boxing skills you hardly see in the HWs.. he beat a bunch of boxers that went on to fight for a pro title and even win it

You haven't learned by now that you can NEVER make any safe assumptions about amateur boxing that translates into the professional ranks? You do know Jorge Luis Gonzalez beat both Bowe and Lewis in the amateurs? Bowe simply steamrolled through him in the pro's, and Jorge Luis Gonzales, despite having those physically skills and talents you mentioned, FAILED MISERABLY. Lennox Lewis and Riddick Bowe are prime examples of height, power, reach, athletic ability, and boxing skills that you DID see in the HW's that puts shame to Felix Savon.

A raw Ray Mercer was denied a victory against Savon because of Olympic style scoring, and an extremely biased Cuban referee. I suppose if Mercer never went pro, he would have learned the amateur system just like the Cubans did and pad his record Olympic after Olympic just like the Cubans do?

Once again like i said before of course amateur success doesnt guarantee pro sucess but you come up with one example of Jorge Luis Gonzales to say all will fail... just like in every other sport when they're evaluating talent they look at how they performed in the amateurs and then try to evaluate how that will translate to the pros... if Boxing had draft Felix Savon wouldve been a #1draft pick after every international competiton.. if he wouldve deserted all the promoters would have thrown millions at him.. and like any other sport he could have been a bust but we will never know he was better than both bowe and lewis as an amateur

No chance. Chagaev beat Savon twice in amateurs.
