my argument is you cant applaud hatton and woods simply because they went over to the states and got whooped by the worlds best. im pretty sure before he fought tszyu ricky was another 'protected european fighter' but when his time came (i.e.- the US tv networks and fighters decided to give a s^%% about him because they saw how much fans and money he brings) he took the opportunity and went to the states. Same thing Joe did! Has to be a 2 way thing!! Not saying hes the best..there is a question mark for me over his legacy because he doesnt have certain guys on his resume....but no way can you put hatton or woods above him in achievements or talents! If you do you discredit a live Bhop
Bhop is still live and he whooped Pavlik, Kessler is a good opponent and dont lie and say you didnt think Lacy was gna whoop Joe and move onto huge things! Again people ignore Eubank I never said Reid et al were great fighters but they were legit champs in their prime! ONLY FIGHTER TODAY JOE SHOULD HAVE FOUGHT WAS CHAD DAWSON
Yes,That is true....Clinton Woods always fought the best and even today past his prime he fought an opponent 10 years younger then him, undefeated and a knockout artist as well,Much respect to clinton woods,He has a lot of heart and not scared of opponents in their prime:good....Unlike someone we know
Calzaghe's legacy will always have question marks around it. Ok he destroyed Lacy and Kessler but both of these were unproven. He didnt fight Froch or Dawson which he should have and he fought Jones Jr and Hopkins way past their prime. Fighting a bunch of tomato cans doesn't make his resume exciting or make wanna go out and buy a dvd of him! The super-mid division aint missing him, it seems like theyve moved on quickly and its looking better than ever!
The O P hit the nail on the head when describing Calzaghe. He and Sven Ottke shoudl fight to see which was the best at the padded match making.
It didn't make sense for him to travel with HIS BELTrofl) to fight Jones because Calzaghe believed he was THE CHAMP for beating a past it Eubank over Jones who beat a prime Toney going in as the underdog. However, it all made sense nearly over 10 years later for him to pick up his lineal title and travel for Jones. Excellent thread, can't argue with anything there.
Nonsense. Warren was getting him the offers, it was Calzaghe who constantly turned them down. You can watch the documentary "No average Joe" when Warren was STILL WITH HIM and you will see both sides talk about it properly. It was Calzaghe who refused to make certain fights happen for delusional reasons. The man has been in the division for so long and never thought about unifying, enough said. If Lacy and Kessler didn't pack their belts and constantly ask for the fight he wouldn't be undisputed champion.
His record is very padded, and there is a good 7 year gap in his title reign where he fought maybe 2 top 10 opponents.
