Good post. The last paragraph is spot on. Anyone who knows anything about boxing who saw that fight knows that was the work of a special fighter.
Of course Calzaghe deserves credit for the way he dismantled Lacy, being the underdog and stepping up. I don't really see a comparison at all between that and Taylor's losses. But Taylor deserves some credit for the Pavlik, especially the 2nd fight. He got right back in there with a guy who had brutally KO'd him and pushed him in a close fight. I think Taylor deserves credit while losing to AA as well. I'd give him more credit for those fights than I would Calzaghe for some of his wins from '98-'05. Again, when a guy steps in with the top competition, especially consistently, losses can and will occur.
calzaghe was definitely overated in my opinion. he didnt face the type of ocmpetition he could have. he barely beat an old B-hop. ah well
Taylor deserves little respect in my view, because Pavlik was never really "top" competition as seen by the demonstration that Hopkins busted out on him at a time where everyone said Hopkins was done. Also he had Pavlik completely beaten and couldn't finish the job.

It wasnt manufactured, Joe proved several times he was the real deal, albeit at a little bit too late of a stage in his career.

huh, i dont think tarver, griffen or woods have EVER fought at super middle weight, glen johnson lost to sheika who calzaghe fought instead next and beat plus johnsons record at SMW is pretty useless, hopkins demanded double the fight money and pulled out of a planned calzaghe fight and jones i dont have a clue about, was he not at 175 all the time as well? Although calzaghe should have fought chad dawson before he retired and ill bet is kicking himself that he didnt as it turned out bad chad is not so bad after all!! But then again moving from people like hopkins and rjj to dawson at that time, who couldnt and probably still cant draw files to sshhhitte, i can understand it a bit, but still would have liked to see that fight
To OP: You mean Roy Jones of 2003. That's when he won the WBA heavyweight belt and then dropped back down to LHW and regained his title. That was Roy's peak. He should have retired right then.
