My goodness, so you lose a fight and have no skill? Give me a break, Pavlik has plenty of boxing skills and he showed it in the middle rounds, while Martinez did a great job, he wasn't any different that a 'Quicker' version of a 1-2 fighter. Fans and haters are so darn fickle for crying out loud! Pavlik is a good fighter who hasn't worked on the weakness that Hopkins exposed. Kelly didn't learn from the loss obviously, the kid has NO confidence, didn't even apparently want to be there and got schooled. Being a fighter on a Championship level will not allow you any room for error. But all of the sudden the kid has no skill because he got beat twice by movement is a joke. Everyone has weak points. The problem is he didn't address them for whatever reason.
Actually Lucian Bute is fast not as fast as Ward or Dirrell but he would box circles around Pavlik just the same.
His relevance or lack thereof will be decided outside of the ring. Unfortunately, Kelly has personal issues and a drinking problem. Sad. I hope he gets it all sorted out.
With the way he's heading you are right. He won't be legitimate at 160 or 168. He needs some serious adjustments. He has been exposed as a very one dimensional fighter. Perplexing is that he had more dimensions before but just forgot how to use them or became overly reliant on the right cross. Not sure which it is. The jab to the chest was good advice but everything else was missing. Jab to the chest, put the right hand behind it to the chest. Uppercuts when Martinez falls in. Don't tie up with him. Just shorten your punches and lay off the right hand inside. Stick to uppercuts and short hooks. He's going to lunge in so don't depend on where his feet are positioned. Focus on where he's going to end up in position, time that and put a body shot in that location. This would be a page from the Bute-Andrade rematch. The eye issue was a good reason why Pavlik had trouble figuring distance. It's still a lame excuse though. He's supposed to be the middleweight champion and is letting a smaller man outwork him inside. He was just too reliant on one big shot upstairs and did virtually nothing downstairs the whole fight. Martinez was dead tired about the half way which is the only reason Pavlik had any success. Even still, Martinez managed to avoid and lessen the right hands Pavik threw. All things considered equal, Martinez should not have seen the 10th. Taylor was limited, so too Miranda and by extension Pavlik. He needs to shape up or he's done. Get a world class trainer as well.
:good I agree with most of what your saying as far as your assesment of him as a fighter, but we will just have to wait and see. I for one think if he stays at middleweight weve not heard the last of him. One must see who is around, and id still pick Pavlik over Sturm and Jacobs (well id have to think a bit more on the sturm one but it would be a good fight) so if he won those two fights hes right back in the mix knocking on the door of whoevers on top at the moment... so again, we will see.
There are WAY too many "Young Guns" (154lbs-168lbs) that can FLAT-OUT Box, Punch, Move, with excellent Defense, Speed and quickness that will render Pavlik absolutely HELPLESS in the ring. Jacobs will Box him into a coma (ala Winky vs Trinidad), Fernando Guererro will KO him within 5 rounds, hell I believe Ishe Smith can beat him. And as for Sturm, I haven't seen much of him since he got robbed vs Oscar. I think the fight that may happen is Pavlik vs Williams/Cintron loser.
WTF? Pavlik definitely isn't hot **** but Jacobs right now? And Ishe Smith? Are you ****ing shitting me? Who has Fernando Guerrero beat? Ossie Duran and Jessie Nicklow, look out. Jacobs right now is nothing and was rocked and bullied by Smith who has Paulie M punch power, he couldn't in-fight and kept getting cut off throughout the ring and bullied on the ropes. Smith plain ****in sucks and Guerrero is a whole two fights out of beating the super badass Ossie Duran by majority decision. Get outta here you friggin idiot. I will be the first to say Pavlik will get the brakes beat off him by a number of fighters but out of the ones you just mentioned, none have a shot, and only Jacobs possibly does in the far future, who by the way may be an excellent athlete but the way that bum smith tooled him, I would say a little more style than substance, hopefully he can prove me wrong because I would love to see the kid succeed. You're an idiot.
pavlik lacks counterpunching. if he knows how to counterpunch, martinez wouldve stopped punching in flurries. pavlik needs to develop footspeed and handspeed also.
Just watched some more tape on Guerrero, and although I will never put my money on Pavlik, I wouldn't put it on Gurrero either. Pavlik has a good chance against guys that go at him and try to trade, Guerrero is definitely not a Martinez or Bhop style fighter, way more of a Pantera.
This is the final nail in the coffin for the Great White Hype. I personally liked him, but he does not have the skills to compete at this level. He beat Miranda, who at the time was a big thing. We all know now that he is not really that good. Subsequently he beat Jermain Taylor who has not won a fight since. These are his best wins. Unfortunately for him, he will get outboxed by any decent boxer. He would probably get KTFO by a decent boxer puncher. Finally, in a war with a slugger with a good chin he would probably lose. Good luck Pavlik, you've done well with the skills you have. My advice, don't get into the ring with the likes of AA or Carl Froch unless you want to be seriously hurt.
If street fighting or barroom brawling were a sport, I would favor Froch over anyone in his weight class. In boxing, I have no ****ing idea how he got this far. I half like him for his attitude, determination, and heart but he is by far and away the least skilled boxer who has a belt. By far. Not saying Pavlik would beat him because I think he has beaten himself, he has no fight in him, which he needs being the **** poor athlete he is, but I wouldn't say Froch would have an easy time and wouldn't be surprised if he were systematically broken down and TKO'd.
