As long as the middleweight division continues to suck as a whole, Pavlik can have a modicum of success so long as he can stay at 160.
Hate to break it to you..... but speed isnt something you can "develop". You either have it or you dont. Kelly doesnt.
Who have they beat...Really? So you think that's what this is about? Question...Who did Ward and Dirrell beat before starching Kessler and Abraham? It's not about who "they" fought...it's about STYLES and SKILL (or Pavlik's lack thereof). Hopkins who have never been called a "Master Boxer" was Boxing Pavliks ears off...Martinez starched Pavlik using only a jab and movement, and not even a good jab nor not even good movement. In fact, it was almost like "running" for about 4 rounds. And the large number of "Young Guns" (especially American) at 154lbs-168lbs (Omar Henry, Shawn Porter, James Kirkland, Danny Jacobs, Fernando Guererro, Peter Quillin, Andre Ward, Andre Dirrell) all have a phenomenal work-rate full of SPEED and ATHLETICISM that can flat-box and counter-punch with superior movement...Pavlik won't stand a chance. These guys are not Gary Locket nor Miguel Espino. In fact, there are tons of International 154-168lbs fighters that give Pavlik trouble also...Felix Sturm, John Duddy and Anthony Mundine. After this recent loss lets see who he fights. I guarantee you he'll stay as far away from a fighter with Speed, Athleticism, Movement that can Box. He'll pick a fighter similar to himself...A STATIONARY, ROBOTIC TARGET!!! And did you notice how I disagreed with you without using Insults and Name-calling.
He certainly needs his next fight to be a big win against a top fighter.I hear he is pushing for a rematch. If so its a must win for Pavlick.
Tell me, which fights of Jacobs, Guerrero, and Kirkland have you seen? The only one of those three that shows movement is Jacobs, and that is all he shows. I said before I will never bet money on Pavlik, but I would guarantee he would whoop their asses in a bad style. All Kirkland and Guerrero do is stalk and walk down opponents, which plays right into Pavlik's game. Felix Sturm, John Duddy, and Anthony Mundine all pale in any comparison to BHop and Martinez. BHop isn't a master boxer? Get out of here. That is all he is, maybe not a conventional boxer but his boxing skill and ability are why we are even talking about him, not amazing athleticism. Jacobs is a hell of an athlete but in the three fights I have seen of him, he is way more of an athlete than a fighter, and with all his athleticism, he still doesn't have any upperbody movement. Peter Quillen isn't half the athlete that Sergio Martinez is. I may have been wrong in insulting you in the previous post, but you just insulted yourself with this junk, and you owe yourself an apology.
I have to agree with Darryl on that!! Hopkins was always known for having good defense and being crafty!! Hopkins was never known for power or speed!! The Hopkins that beat Pavlik was based on speed!!
:admin Anyone thinking Kelly Pavlik moving up to 168 is a good idea is just delusional, on crack, meth, heroine or a combo of any of those. The only one guy KP has a chance of beating @168 is JT again, and that would still be a close fight. All others would kill him... KP moving up is parallel to what Valero did to himself earlier today, just in a ring...
I have to say that i totaly disagree with the people who say Pavlik should not go for the rematch. He was the middleweight champ and i see it no other way but for Kelly to try and regain his middleweight title. Now that Pavlik seen first hand what Martinez is about,he can try and make some adjustments for the foot speed and movement that Sergio has. The fight was there for the taking for Pavlik. He did show signs of ad******g in the middle rounds. He was cut, then lost big in the championship rounds. He did give Martinez trouble at times with his size, and with a good gameplan IMO Pavlik has a shot at regaining his straps. Going to 168lbs right now is not the answer. There are fighters there who can also box well with realy good movement and hit harder then Martinez.Lucian Bute,Andre dirrell,Ward to name a few. If Pavlik is serious about continuing his career then he must go for the rematch. He is still very young and if all else fails and he loses the rematch and still wants to fight after that,he should then think about starting over and going to 168lbs. If making 160lbs is a serious problem for Pavlik, then thats a whole nother issue. He might have to move up.But thats to be heard. For Pavlik to continue fighting and just walk away from the rematch and his titles would be the foolish move. I say "GO FOR IT" Kelly... See it no other way.
If Pavlik goes to 168, he will be made foolish looking forever. If he fought Ward and Dirrell, he would be laughed out of life.
