I didn't say all you need to do is land more punches. When I'm saying that landing more punches on your opponent than he lands on you is the name of the game, I'm talking about the basics.. That doesn't mean that other things are not important. I can land 20 pitty pat punches on my opponent and if he lands 10 bombs on me, then of course I'm worse off.

Landing at a high connect % is not something that you need to do if you're out-throwing your opponent more than 3 to 1. Its meaningless.

Landing 246 out of 1230 to 108 out of 399 is amazing.

The methods employed to DETERMINE that result may vary however. Floyd chooses to be more conservative with his punches and focus on accuracy. Manny focuses on pressure and doesn't mind letting his hands go. EITHER way works, and thus the net result is there: they both won.

 

Haven't you seen fighters deservedly win fights where they didn't land as many punches as their opponent? Didn't Willie Pep win a round without throwing a punch? The name of the game is boxing and the rules state that you win fights by:

Defense

Ring Generalship

Effective Aggression

Clean punching

Only landing 20% of your punches against a stationary target is not amazing. Only landing 38 more punches than someone while throwing 754 more is not amazing.

Maybe you need to re-read what I said there. Landing punches is what counts, and the methods you take to get it done don't matter. You think other variables don't go hand in hand? (IE when you land punches you're obviously doing other things right as well) Think critically before you try to impose your "boxing knowledge" or lack thereof. :roll:
