Clearly Arum is not worried about making pointless, or uncompetitive fights.

You're not being fair. What if you were to apply the same logic to Pac's situation when he yearned for a chance against Barrera back when Pac was still a bit green? One has to start at some point and these guys such as Berto and Bradley have done enough to work up the ladder for a big shot against Floyd or Pac.

Clottey made enough financial sense, but Williams and Berto don't?

I don't think Arum is as confident in Pacquiao as many people think. Even Roach understands his boundaries. Roach felt a fight against a Mosley that just KOed Margarito was too dangerous. Mayweather simply outclassed Mosley. I don't want to make it sound funny but Arum is being very careful with Manny. The way he sees it, if Manny loses, it will be against one of his fighters or it will be a huge amount of money outside of that. Only Mayweather can bring that at this point. Manny himself is probably willing to fight most of these guys, but he doesn't realize that he has been a bit protected. A rude awakening is coming Arum's way. The sad thing is Roach and Manny will be a part of it.

Excellent post that cuts to the heart of the matter.

I find it a joke that Arum is pushing for either a cheater or a guy Pacquiao already beat down. It seems to me that Pacquiao can't carry big PPV alone. The PPV against Clottey was okay but it had a lot to do with the venue. I can't see that fighting Cotto again brings in big PPV numbers as they have already fought. Margarito? Maybe a lot of Mexican fans would buy it. I'm never shy about buying PPV's but if he fights Margarito or Cotto, I'll either get an illegal feed or pass on the fight. I'm not rewarding Arum and company for making either of those fights.
