I noticed today that the BBC flagged this as a potential fight. Interested to hear thoughts on whether this makes sense for both, and how it might play out. Wardley vs Clarke on March 31
In terms of money it makes sense for both. But Clarke already pulled out of negotiations for this last year with the excuse that he wasn’t “ready”. He fought the corpse of Dave Allen instead, as of course a fight of that magnitude would prepare him for a step up. Not. Clarke is a plodder with an amateur style and Wardley knocks him sparko is how it plays out. Wardley might not be the best technical fighter in the world but he at least has a professional boxing brain and goes in to hurt an opponent.
Clarke is one of the worst Olympic Bronze medalists I’ve seen turn over, especially at Heavyweight and bear in mind we have had Wilder and Price. He should win, but I back Wardley to win on a decision. Maybe a bit biased though as I like Fabio, seems like a good guy and very personable.
I'd imagine Wardley wins quite comfortably. Clarke is very unconvincing, it will take some extremely gifted matchmaking to get him anywhere near, well anything really.
There's already considerable background to this one. The Board ordered it probably around March/April time iirc? Clarke was pulled out on the day of the scheduled purse bid. Wardley was always on one-fight deals with Matchroom, last fight was on that Fury-Ngannou QP show, but don't think he's signed with anyone at the minute. I'd love to see it, would be a great domestic heavyweight clash worthy of the British in the vein of Joyce-Dubois.
Would be a good fight towards the end of 2024. I think Clarke should fight someone like David Adeleye as a test to see if he's ready for Wardley.
Wardley will beat Big Graze without too many problems. After his destruction of Adeleye, he should be targeting faded stepping stones such as Whyte, Joshua or Wilder next to get himself in the frame for one of the vacant titles up for grabs soon.
If Clarke can't put Adeleye away then he may as well just use himself as an opponent for the rest of his career.
Personally, I think the ship may have sailed for that fight unless Sky allows it happens on a Saudi show for some reason.
Wish it would happen soon so we can have an end to Sky's spam of "Big Fraze" dancing in arenas and so on
Would be a fun watch and I agree - shot Chisora still beats Wardley IMO. Chisora loses against Joyce or Dubois, though.
Wardley is improving and I can see him doing a number on Chisora if he avoids the 2-3 overhead rights that would be thrown in the fight.
I have spoken to boxers who have sparred with Wardley and several say that he is far better than people think. One boxer said that Wardley has only shown approx. 50 percent of his abilities in battle. I have to admit that I was wrong about Fabio Wardley
