Fabio Wardley VS Anthony Joshua

Ideally it should be Itauma vs Wardley and Fury vs Joshua and the winners face off next

 

This is what it comes down to for me. AJ is fully capable of beating Wardley. But if it turns into some war, god knows what happens with him. Does he start making dumb beginner mistakes like he did against Dubois? Does he start getting gun-shy and afraid to throw?

Wardley, if it comes down to a war, well, check out the first three letters of the man’s name. He just gets stronger, meaner, and more determined in a war.

It gets ugly, my money is on Wardley. If it is more of a pure boxing match, AJ wins unless Wardley gets lucky.

I was not comparing him to Joyce other than to illustrate what happens when a fighter falls in love with his chin, and to a bigger extent with Wardley, power. Fabio has very little head movement, perhaps due to hos lack of experience, but he doesn't ride punches, he wears them. That won't last. I'm not a 'new' AJ fan, I have been following boxing all of my life and I'm nearer 60 than 50 now. I have been pretty disparaging about Joshua in the past, I don't think he is an elite fighter but on those rare occasions he can pull it all together, he is a handful for anyone, credit where it is due. Will he ever be mentally right again? That is the (literally?) $64 million question. A young, hungry puncher like Wardley might walk through him like Dan did, and I'd not be surprised if he did. But I don't think he would. Aj is strong enough, has a good enough jab, is mobile enough to outbox Wardley and to hurt him much more than his last two opponents have. Parker and Huni are not punchers, AJ is.

It will be interesting to see how this pans out if it ever does happen. I think it should happen next. Neither man really have anything to lose. Fabio would be an underdog and if he loses he comes back, rinse and repeat. AJ should win, but if he loses the Fury fight is still there and could likely be made easier. I'll stick by my prediction. Aj wins this relatively comfortably, likely by stoppage. But I'd not be surprised if he ends up flattened.

Style wise it's a decent matchup for AJ because his counters are sharp and powerful (or at least they used to be), but the intangibles favour Wardley.

 

Some have not learned anything from Joshua's previous fights and for them Joshua still sounds like a real threat, Wardley obliterates him in a one-sided beating.

 

I have noticed the old myth of Joshua being an invincible destroyer has been replaced with the myth of Joshua as being a superior boxer.
The last few years, i read comments about him "outboxing" and "superior skills". A ton of people were sure of it before the Dubois fight too, then Dubois just boxed and punched him into the ground, from the opening bell.

I think Wardley is being seriously overrated here. He may become something in time, but it's too early. His last two victories were controversial. He may have won both anyway, but his opponents deserved the benefit of the doubt after thoroughly outboxing him for most of their fights. They were stopped in Wardley's favor slightly early. If you put him in the top 10, fine, but number 1 is way too high. I still think AJ would handle him fairly easily.
