No he definitely couldn't just change into aggressive punching mode at any time as an "insta-win", but he did try out different approaches to solving Hearns. Both alternated roles as the stalker and mover etc in the end Hearns just didn't take a shot quite as well. With a better chin he probably wins a competitive but clear decision.

Ray probably would have done better when he was moving if he had been better able to jab and counter on the move, but he never really mastered that, unlike the other great Sugar Ray.he always had to come down off his toes and plant to be effective.

Leonard never "solved" Hearns and never could , it's just that Hearns was drained and therefore out of energy , just like Toney vs Nunn .
If Hearns wasn't drained , which means anywhere from 150 lbs up , it would have been much more similar to Hearns vs Leonard #2 , even in Leonard's prime . Hearns never had enough time 2 remain both @ 147 & @ shape .

In terms of sustained,furious,in-ring action, the 2000 four shits all over the 80's lot.

The first Morales-Barrera fight was beyond ridiculous in regards to the pace in which they fought over the entire fight, and the back and forth exchanges between the two were as vicious and exhilarating as you will ever see in boxing.

Marquez and Barrera is pretty underrated, too - superior to the two Vazquez and Marquez fights in that year,I'd say.

the 4 legends of the 1980s were higher quality than the 4 of the 2000s. And those fighters had totally different styles and personalities. It was a rare era. The guys from the 1980's were just high ATG fighters. The fights from the 80s were so devastating that you could not have a few fights. Hagler/Hearns 3? Tommy and Marvin would not have had any more energy left to fight that fight. Ray and Tommy wore each other out. Duran and Hearns was talked about in a rematch, but Duran never seemed to want it, and for that matter Hagler never wanted the Hearns rematch.

I think the same thing just the 80s legends were the best. Barrera lost to Junior Jones. You guys forgot Wilfredo Benitez and the fab 5. Hearns,Leonard and Duran all fought him. That makes the 80s much much much better!!!!

80s!!! Betters fighters and more exciting fights!! Someone just mentioned Benitez not being in the fights of the 1980s!!!! He was seen as not as great as Leonard,Hearns,Hagler and Duran, and that is why he is not mentioned, and he was better than 3 of the guys who fought in the 2000 Morales Barrera and Marquez!!!!!

Hagler didn't need a rematch, he disposed of Hearns in 3 rounds fair and square.

I remembered Benitez, and was about to include his fights, Benitez vs Duran, Harns, Leonard are some of my favorite fights, even more than most of the 80's Fav Four 9 fights. But it had to be a 4 on 4, I considered including Hammed, but he only fought Barrera, also considered including Rocky Juarez who fought Marquez once and Barrera twice, maybe even Junior Jones, Agapito Sanchez, Paulie Ayala, or David Diaz. But none great like Morales, Barrera, Marquez, Pacquiao. So Benitez was out. Maybe i should have included Benitez instead of Hagler. New Fav Four, Hearns, Duran, Benitez, Leonard.
