10-9 Douglin, 20-18 Douglin, rocking back the Mexican veteran with a few overhand lefts behind a fluttering double & triple right jab, mostly dipping forward and shouldering through Román's attempts to locate the face with his jab and then bring down the ax-like right hand on the way in.

10-8 Douglin, 30-26 Douglin, scores a fairly blatant low blow yet the ref gave Román a count for some reason. Douglin did dominate the rest of the round, though, and the scorecards are looking increasingly academic at this point. Román is a tough nut but he is showing signs of cracking, especially when Douglin goes to the body (legitimately anyway, not when scoring dubious low blow knockdowns). Román mostly skittering back, knocking down punches when he can with his left mitt and lining up long 1-2s while taking an extra step back, not reaching.

    Round 4

Román is hurt by a headbutt, and given some time for recovery, taking under half a minute while Douglin waits in a neutral corner sullenly, not seeming to like all the admonitions of the ref. Time in. Douglin pouring on body shots, following up with a left uppercut on the jaw when he rocks his opponent backward. Román hurt and trapped in a corner. Douglin is leaning forward, grinding his way in like a torpedo with his right shoulder driven in first and then working uppercut combos downstairs to light up Román's midsection. Very little back from Román, just desperation flurries with his back against the corner or ropes.

    10-9 Douglin - almost 10-8 even without a KD

    40-35 Douglin

What the **** were the 7% of fans that thought Roman won the 4th, watching? They should be checked out, they must be ill.

    Round 5

Román's trunk is being peppered as Douglin smothers him against the ropes and goes to work. Román is twisting and writhing, slashing downward and countering where he can but wincing every time Douglin starts a combination. Douglin starting each salvo with body shots and then coming up, rocking the head of Román back sharply. Román sinks partway into a kneel in a corner but rises, still willing to fight even as the ref offers him a lifeline, asking if he's sure. Román is sure, he wants to continue. Douglin jumps on him and opens up, almost overwhelming him, Román saved by the bell.

    10-8 Douglin

    50-43 Douglin

I guess the 10-8 round scared off 1%, Roman's supporters were down to 6% that thought he won the 5th.

I was thinking exactly that.

Also laughing at Jonathan Coachman not understanding that 93-7% in the fan poll doesn't mean "fans had Douglin absolutely dominating the round" - it means 93% of fans thought he won the round. A graphic like that gives no indication of qualitatively HOW people thought somebody won a round (ie close or dominant). This guy DKSAB even more than he didn't KSAW. :sisi1

    Round 6

Douglin is whipping in underhanded lefts downstairs after basting Román's face with a quick flutter of right jabs. Román down from yet another low blow, as Douglin aims the underhanded left just a tad low, on the bottom cusp of the waistband. Román milks the reprieve given by the ref. Time in. Douglin then scores a legit body shot knockdown and Román is grimacing & spitting out his gum shield during the count. The referee gets to eight and then waves it off, not liking Román's body language.

    TKO6!

Román in his pomp could be a high-risk spoiler but he needs to retire now. He isn't even good for taking prospects the distance anymore; the punishment is just going to pile up exponentially at his age.

La Fiera, though he indeed has been stopped earlier by some non-elites and/or non-punchers, has never been a guaranteed easy out for anybody. He's the wildly inconsistent sort of journeyman that you always need to expect to potentially go some hard rounds with, and has sneaky power that you need to watch out for yourself (even in deep waters). Although he used to be able to handle some flurries on the body without falling to pieces like this, so he does need to retire now.

This was quite possibly Douglin's final ring appearance before his pro debut's ten-year anniversary.

The consecutive setback losses to Benavídez & Dirrell meant taking a step down in competition, fair enough - but now having regained his confidence with consecutive victories over young unbeaten Vaughn Alexander followed by grizzled vet Saúl Román he needs to hurry and step it up again. He's a decade in, can't be mucking about.

Mama needs to crack that whip.
