    Did you know...
Only 1 Mexican has ever won their Fighter of the Year award (JCC-1989)
4 Europeans have won it (Johansson in 1959, Buchanan in 1970, Lewis in 1999 and Hatton in 2005), with 3 of those being Brits
Just 2 Puerto Ricans have won it (Ortiz in 1967 and Trinidad in 2000)

What this means is Britain has the same amount of "BWAA Fighter of the Years" as Mexico and Puerto Rico combined!

Also Manny Pacquiao (3 times in 2006, 2008 and 2009) has won it himself as many times as Puerto Rican's and Mexican's combined!

Pacquiao and Donaire (2009) are the only Asian's to have won the award.

    Okay moving on...

The Fight of the Year award (which began in 2003) has been won by a fight that took place in the US for ALL but 1 year (2006's FOTY took place in France)

The Trainer of the Year award (which began in 1989) has only been won by trainers who aren't American 4 times (Felix Trinidad Sr won it twice in 1995 and 2000, Miguel Diaz in 1999 and Enzo Calzaghe in 2007).

Freddie Roach (7 times) is the most successful man in this category

So now a question...do people really take them seriously?

I think it's a combination between American favourtism and a popularity contest.

Amazingly RJJ never won it (he did win fighter of the decade), Hopkins won it once, Holyfield won it thrice. As for his uncle and father, could it be that the BWAA love them Roach a bit too much to go for a Mayweather...

Did you know that from like 1700-1900 almost all of the champions were British? Shocking. Instead of crying racism or bias, why don't you think about why that is.
