Fair to say that Danny Garcia vs Lucas ended both of their primes?

Both have looked terrible and although technically unbeaten since then, MANY would say Garcia is 2-2 with 2 wins over AWFUL AWFUL opposition while Lucas has only lost once, but struggled against a guy tailor made for him and took a beating in most of those fights seeing the canvas on a few occasions.

    I think it's a fair statement.

Matthysse time at the top level is up. Garcia fights on. Whether you think he won or lost, he's won and his resume can't be questioned. Done, foh. Matthysse is done.

Neither of them took a beating in that fight. Garcia won clearly and that's about it.

This. Danny's the same fighter he was, always had the potential to be outboxed. Matthysse may have sustained some damage to his eye in that fight I wouldn't say it otherwise affected his ability as a fighter. His best win is Prov a good couple of years after Garcia

I'd have to agree, they both left it all in the ring that night.

With the exception of winning the PPV lottery against one of the two big names, there was nothing bigger for either Garcia nor Matthysse than facing each other for supremacy when they did.

    Very interesting take.

I don't know because Garcia still looks the same to me, it just seems like he has problems with high volume punchers and guys with good jabs. Even in the Khan fight where he ended up destroying him, Khan was outboxing him pretty easily for the first couple rounds. Guys with high work rates can make Danny look bad (if their chins can hold up to his left hook counter.)

But it's an interesting point. Both men haven't looked that great since they fought each other.

Danny may still have the stylistic weaknesses he did before, but he took significant physical damage in that fight. The proof is in the pudding with his matchmaking. His team knows it, and has matched him with light hitters in softer matchups ever since then until they can cash him out. He's not the same Garcia.

The fight wasn't brutal enough to "end" either one of their primes.

Matthysse is my boy, but all the Garcia fight did was expose his weakness to a good technician boxer could handle his power.

Garcia wasn't ended by that fight. He's still the same fighter. Garcia does well against guys who come at him, but struggles against technician boxers. That's why he'd be suited to fight a guy like Porter who come at him. Whereas a technical sharp shooter like Crawford or Spence would beat him down.

They were wise to pay off Postol to step aside. He also matched up all wrong with Garcia.
