You're assuming the family want a second post-mortem because they suspect foul play. There's a lot more involved with a suicide verdict that you'd expect, especially if Sutherland had been on anti-depressants that contributed to his state of mind when it happened.

I dislike and find it inappropriate for people to criticise or question the actions of his family, suffixed with RIP as if that makes what they say somehow better. It's his family's pain and their right to take it as far as they need to get the answers they need.

A second post-mortem is rarely granted unless there is sufficient evidence to justify it. An exhumation to achieve it is even more rare. So there is clearly grounds for doing so.

I find this whole thread distasteful frankly and a horrible thing to bring up for discussion. If you want him to rest in peace, leave it with his family. No one has anything here worth adding.

See you're talking out of your arse again. I never criticised their actions and I didn't say it wasn't their right at all. Nobody on this thread has said anything distasteful let alone me. I questioned why they would want to exhume the body, so what ? Is it something which i'm not allowed to wonder as a fan of the sport and somebody who was saddened by the death of a very talented young prospect ?

And I may be wrong but I find it hard to believe the body would be exhumed if no foul play was suspected too. Why would they go through all the pain again to check if he was on anti-depressants ? I may be wrong but like you said 'That's their prerogative'

You seem to have a real chip on your shoulder about something and I suspect it isn't really this thread. Get a grip of yourself, this is a boxing forum, was you complaining when everybody was running amas with rumours of details of Gatti's death ? Was you hell, because people talk boxing on here. Some people on here said awful things about that but I never saw you complaining once. Quite frankly it amazes me you have a problem with a thread which, until you contributed to, was relatively low key and respectful.

Boxer's family won't seek fresh inquest 'unless we have to'

THE father of Olympic boxer Darren Sutherland last night said he would not push for a second inquest into his son's tragic death "unless I absolutely have to".

Almost 10 months after Darren's body was discovered in his London apartment, his family yesterday confirmed they had applied for a licence to have his remains exhumed.

They said their motivation was to "ensure some certainty is brought to the circumstances surrounding Darren's death".

The Sutherland family also said they felt a second post-mortem would only help in putting "all relevant matters" before the coroner when the inquest into his death resumes in London later this year.

An inquest into the boxer's death was opened and adjourned last September.

A spokesperson at Croydon Coroner's Court in London yesterday said no date had yet been fixed for the resumed hearing.

The spokesperson confirmed that a post-mortem had been carried out on the 27-year-old, but no request was received for a fresh examination.

In the past two weeks, the boxer's parents, Tony and Linda, were granted a licence by Meath Co Council to have their son's remains exhumed from his grave near his home in Navan.

    Speculation

A statement from the family issued through their solicitors said they had taken the decision "after very careful and in-depth consideration" of all the issues.

They also wanted to dispel any rumours or speculation concerning their application.

"Whilst they are not at liberty to go into the specific reasons for their application given the pending coronial inquest into their late son's death, they feel that the conduct of a second post-mortem into Darren's death will only assist in putting all relevant matters before the coroner.

"Their only motivation for taking this step is to ensure some certainty is brought to the circumstances surrounding Darren's death."

Mr Sutherland last night said the family "might or might not" be making a request for a second post-mortem.

"I will not make that decision until I absolutely have to. I am taking legal advice," Mr Sutherland told the Irish Independent.

He also refused to comment on media reports the family was attempting to seek a jury-based inquest in the hope of securing a verdict of death by misadventure and not suicide.
