Tell us about Harold Johnson, Robert...I know he was a great guy, but I just enjoy first hand accounts about my boxing heroes.
I went to the boxing hall of fame a few times, so I met many, but did not really interact much. One I met which I thought was one of the nicest was Julian Jackson. No one recognized him at first, and I walked up and said Julian.. And then people started to notice him for some reason. Later, I am walking around this lobby area and his wife hands me a picture of him signed by Julian. And he waved. I thought that showed he was a great guy.. He appreciated his fans.
Absolutely my man. Harold was a guy i always wanted to meet. When I was younger I used to see him most mornings waiting to get on the bus for his daily trip to Atlantic City. Casino Bus ride. Anyway fast forward many yrs later I found out he was living in a VA home. This is I think about 16 yrs ago. So a grab some DVDs of some of his fights and drive over about 35 min. I tell the desk who I want to c and he comes out. Man he looks big and strong for an old guy. Giant barrel chest and heavy arms. I introduce myself and we go and talk a bit I show him the DVDs. Now he's in and out mentally at this point. But he tells me how he used to box rings around Liston when he lived in Phila. I say how hard does he hit? He says I don't know he couldn't touch me lol. Very nice man. Each time I went over the course of that summer the staff would set up a different fight I brought over to watch. I met one of his daughters once and man she was gorgeous! Well I went about 4 or 5 times that summer and each time his memory was worse so I bowed out as I didn't want to make things uncomfortable. It is honestly Kool to say I was friends with Harold Johnson. Interesting enough when I was younger one of the first gyms I trained at was a PAL gym and the guy who I worked with there was his nephew. Built the same way but a middleweight. PA state prison mw champ maybe pa state mw champ but don't remember

5'8 definitely not ,but he is listed as 5"10 in boxrec and i would say that he is a little shorter . Here he is next to a former spanish cruiser champ ibrahim lopez and i know ibra very well,he is listed as 5'10 1/2 (1,79) and i am sure that he is a little shorter than it. (Ibrahim is the guy with the t shirt vans the effect of the camera makes him look more slim but he is a bull type joe frazier between fights he was 220-230 easily https://goo.gl/images/qFvsWL
