Stuff I've read/heard through the years.. Morales doing real well in sparring against Floyd and Floyd getting pissed and getting out the ring.(this was when Morales was being trained by Floyd Sr.) Zab Judah knocking out Vargas in sparring. Michael Moorer looking like absolute **** in sparring before fighting Tua. James Toney talking **** about Easter Europeans not having heart in the gym, UFC Champion Oleg Taktarov did not care for that so he challenges Toney to a street fight. Toney said lets do it, James proceeds to knock him out cold with the first punch.
That's right, boxing is a discipline just like any other and sparring is like sketching and observing your skillset. Where a fight is simply just opposing (and pressing forward) against the will of another man. In saying that, seeing two greats mix it up in a spar does give some insight on chemistry of skillsets. It's mostly just a novelty though IMO
Hey John im sure you have plenty stories for this thread, is there any truth to a 16 year old roy jones dropping prince charles williams with a body shot? And i also heard he outboxed Leonard in a sparring session in preparation for the olympics, any truth to that either?? Thanks:thumbsup
Wow i never knew that! Do you know which fights? Would be interesting to see the differences, if there was any
vincent pettway beat up alot of the top notch 154 and 160 in his day. gave simon brown alot of trouble and cemented 4 years later with a booming left hook to the jaw. also oscar delahoya getting bullied and knockeddown by chavez.....incidently mosley bullied chavez.
a tiny minority i might add. most peeps see it as an interesting footnote. khan was getting countered and looked like an amatuer in his sparrign sessions before kotelnik.....:think it means nish but is an interesting note.
Jean Pascal did way better than Lemieux versus Andrade. But Andrade can't really get his physical style going in sparing. Pascal really made him look bad.
What is true about the story of Wlad floored three times against kevin Johnson. I can hardly believe it. Johnson ia a featherfisted fighter and Wlad i 10 times more experienced. But I would like to know if it is true.
I heard that Andy Lee whupped on Jermain Taylor at the Kronk a while back, and that there was video of it. Can't confirm this however, just hearsay.
Pascal also knocked Joachim Alcine out cold in sparring about 2 years ago and supposely outclassed Adrian Diaconu back in 2004 when he was preparing for the Olympics.
One story I heard was Roger Mayweather Sr and Jeff Fenech, when Fenech was training for Azumah in Vegas. Apparently, the sparring was heated and Mayweather was pissed off with the way Fenech, a 130lber was muscling him around and challenged him to go another round. They went 2 more rounds before their trainers stopped it. Another story was between Fenech and some huge rugby players who wanted to get in the ring with Fenech. Fenech was barely up to their necks but was bashing them so badly that all the rugby players got out after 1 round.
